Specification of Letters-Patent.

Application filed April 16, 1910. Serial No. 555,894.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GommB, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Port Jervis, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Inhalers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to inhalers and consists of a simple and cheap device with open- 7 ings and adapted to contain powder or a moist sponge. A mouth piece communicates with the interior of the device so that the powder may be drawn into the throat, or the vapors from the sponge containing a solution for treating colds or throat troubles as will be more fully described in the followillustrated in the drawings, wherein:

The invention comprises a cylinder or bowl 5 with removable end pieces 6 which constitute heads. 5 has an opening consisting of a tube 7 leading into the cylinder and each head 6 has a similar "opening and tube 8, the tubes being for the admission of air to the cylinder. At one side of the cylinder and opposite the tube 7 is a mouth piece 9 secured to the cylinder at the outlet 10 and of suflioient capacity to about equal the three outlets 7 and 8.
The powder to be administered to the patient is placed within the cylinder when one of the ing the end, the device is ready for use. As shown in Fig. 4, a saturated sponge 11 may be placed within the cylinder and, the tubes 7 and 8 shortened so as to provide sufficlent room for a sponge of reasonable size.
s the air is drawn from the cylinder 5 through the mouth piece 9 by the user, the desired amount of moisture is also carried from thesponge into the throat. It is obvlous that the amount of'air and powder or moisture may be limited by the size of the openings of the tubes 7 and 8 and that their size may be accordingly arranged to provide for the proper regulation of the supply going into the mouth piece.
It is obvious that other modifications may be resorted to in the construction of the device, without departing from essential fea-' tures above shown.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In an inhaler, the combination of a barrel adapted to contain a medicated sponge, of on the ends of said barrel and provided with tapering nozzles projecting into said barrel and adapted to penetrate the inclosed sponge, a mouth piece secured to one side of the barrel, and an inwardly projecting tapering nozzle on the other side of the barrel also adapted to penetrate the'sponge and arranged in alinement with said mouth piece.
