NURSING-BOTTLE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
Application filed March 1, 1912. Serial No. 680,877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SAUNDERS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the cit of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Nursing-Bottle Support of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a support for nursing bottles and particularly relates to a means for supporting a nursing bottle in position on the side of a chil s crib or carriage, and an object of my invention is to dispose the bottle so as to be in position within reach of the child and a further object of my invention is to provide a support which may be readily removed from the crib or carriage, which contains relatively few parts that might get out of order, and which may be readily cleaned and easily manufactured.
I attain the above outlined objects by mounting a bracket upon the crib, carriage or other suitable support, extendin from which bracket is an arm, one end 0 which is bent into a supportin recessed end, disosed in which is a bottle carrying member iaving spring arms engaging the nursing bottle.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings formin a part of this specification in which simil ar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of my support in position on a childs crib. Fig. 2 1s a transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrow and, Fi 3 1s a longitudinal sectional view taken tirough the bottle carrying member.
Described more in detail, I have shown the side of a crib or other suitable support A, mounted upon which is a bracket 4 slidably adjustable in which is a rod 5, fastened in position b the binding screw 6, one end of which 1'0( 5 is bent at right angles to the main portion and then bent back a ain on itself and then bent again arallel to t io ori inal direction to form the -sha ed open ended slot 7. Adapted to be detaciiably secured in the slot 7 is a bottle supporting arm 8. having adjacent one end a stop nut or fixed abutment 9 adapted to be clamped snugly against the slotted portion of the rod 5 by means of the winged nut 11 on the threaded end 10 of the arm. The end of the arm 8 opposite the screw threaded end has pivoted thereto by means of the rivet 12, a bottle carrying plate 13, adapted to rotate on said pivotal connection 12. Adjacent the ends of said late 13 is a pair of s )ring arms 14: in the orm of split rings, a apted to embrace and frictlonally hold the nursing bottle 15. It is seen by this construction that by loosenin the binding screw 6, the rod 5 may be s id through the bracket t until the bottle is in its correct position transversely of the crib. Then by rotating the rod 5 on its own axis the bottle may be tilted downward toward the child at any desired angle. Then the nut 6 is screwed down to hold the rod 5 in this position. The rod 5 may be left in this position, and due to the construction of the slot 7, the arm 8 and the bottle may be withdrawn from the rod sim ly by loosening the nut 11. Should it be desired to withdraw the nursing nipple 16 away from the child, without removing the arm 8, the plate 18 may be swung on its pivotal point 12, to bring the bottle into a position opposite to the position shown in Fig. 1.
This device is so constructed as to be made of the cheapest possible materials whereby it may be brought within the reach of the poorest families at a few cents cost. Devices of the character of this invention are designed especially for the use of poor mothers who are obliged to work and who consequently are able to give but the least amount of attention to their children. In this connection it is to be observed that the s )ecial formation of the rod 5 in the provision of the L-shaped slot 7 enables the attendant to readily attach or detach the arm 8 from the substantially fixed rod 5 with the least amount of trouble, leaving the rod 5 in its adjusted position. The particular form of the end of the rod is such that the child is not likely to cause injury to himself or the clothing by contact with a projecting part of the red as might be the case if it were made of different design.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the followin The herein described support for a nursing bottle comprising, in combination, an adjustable rod having one end bent to form an open-ended L-shaped slctymeans to hold a the rod in adjusted position, an arm seated in said slot, a fixed abutment and a nut on opposite sides of said rod adjacent said slot wherekgy the arm is easily detachably secured o the rod, and abottle holding device carried by said arm.
In testimony whereof I have signed my I name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
