eas es.
'Be it known that L'WILLIAM'A; Mnon, citizen of the-United States, and resident of.
I Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machines, of which the following a specifica- -sewing machinesremployin taker anda non-rotary bo b cation'of the contacting surfaces of the" My. invention relates to sewing mQ-QlllHBS and has special reference to that class ofbin case seated within a race-way in said loop-taker. In this class. ofmachines, when adaptedto run at a .high rate of speed, as. for instance, from four to -five thousand stitches per provided for maintaining a cohstantlubriloop-taker and bobbin-case, and it is also necessary cation the contacting surfaces so as not to soil the needle thread when it is being assed about the bobbin-case by the loop-ta er. 4 7
With the knowledge of such requirements 7 in mind,-it has been the object of my inven- 3 supported [novel construction, arrangement and bination of parts hereinafter described 1n "appended 'c aims: Reterringnow nan totp v d en imPmVed lubricating;
meansfor-the contacting'surfaces of a loop taker and bobbin-case having the necessaryl characteristics referred to;
- ,To this end myinvention consists in the com" deta'l and articularly pointed out in the sewing machine asis necessar' to'illust'rate m invention,-Figure 1 is a rent end view of the bed-Eilate of a sewin machine and its oop-taker and obbin-case', with arts partly broken away to ustrate the invention. Fig.
certain of the more clearly 11 2 is a centralcross section through the looptaker and its supportedihdlibf case, taken' on. the line f 2-2 of Figflffl-Figis afrom view of the loop-taker with the bobbin-case removed.
Similar reference characters indicate like ,arts in the several figures of the drawings.
k The loop taker shown in the present case,

netted a 2 a rotary loop minute, it is necessary that some means heth'at in maintaining such lubri v lubricant should be confined substantiallyto the adjacent point and to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which I have shown only so muchof ais' of these-called hook type, and 1s directly'mounted on the front end-of an operating shaft 3 journaled 1nsuitablebearmgs at the under side of the bed-plate 4. This loop-taker is of the usual open cup-shaped form having a circular race way 5 formed therein at its face side, in which is adapted to be seated a nonrotary bobbin-case 6 which is formed with a 'periigheral bearing surface 7 for location.
in said'race-way. Alatch of suitable construction, such as that indicated by dotted lines in Fig. ,1' and as more fully disclosed in Letters Iatent No. 1,005,250, granted to me October 10, 1911, is adapted .to removably hold'the bobbin-casein its'sa-id o era- .{ilive wnnection with the loop-taker' an also old'thesame against rotary'movement.
In accordance with my invention, the loop taker is-formed with an elongated recess orgroove '8 in the wall of its race-way 5 which extends lengthwise of the latter and terminates at its opposite ends' adjacent the heel respectively, of the loop- Patented Nov. 5, 1@i2.
taker, as shown. Located and retained within this grooveS is a lubricating means, indicated at 9, for engag ng with and lubricating the adjacent or opposed rim of the bob-- This lubricating means may be kind suitable for the purposa the bin-case. a y 7 same preferably being an oil-saturated strip of absorbent material-,such as a st!"- ml of woolen. yarn, I
sorb and retai oil or like lubricant. With this described means, a lubrication of the rim of thebobbin-caseat its point of en-' gagement with the loop-taker wil be constantly maintained, and the lubricant, by reason of th "location of its containing groove 8 adjacent'the rear side of the raceway and back from the face of the looptaker, will be suificient-ly confined to prevent such undue s reading of the same as would. tend to. soil t e thread.
What I claim is:
1.- In combination, a provided 'with a race-wayhavlng an elon gated groove therein, a non-rotary bobbincase seated in said race-way, and lubricating 'means'located in said groove in the raceway for contact with the adjacent surfaceof the bobbin-case.
2. In combination, having a race-way, and a non-rotary a rotaryv loo -taker bhinhich 'latter will read' .l abwee seated in said race-way, said loop-tinker Signed at Cleveland in the ccl mty of I eing provided with an elongated groovein CuyehofaAand State of Ohio, this 4th day ts race-way terminating at its opposite ends of Apri D. 1911. adjacent the point and heel respectively of t WILLIAM A. MACK. 5 the loop-taker, and lubricating means 10- Witnesses: v v
