VELOCIPEDE-STAND.

Be it known that I, KURT Ponzio, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Glauchau, Saxony, in Germany, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Velocipede-Stancls,of which the follow ing is a specification.
The invention has for its object to provide a stand for velocipedes, which, while furnishing a firm support for the machine, can be locked in a position in which it holds the machine entirely clear of the ground, so that the machine cannot be ridden by any unauthorized person, and can only be removed by carrying.
The stand may be provided in the known manner with an indicating device which can only be adjusted by the owner and can be set by him so as to indicate that the machine is stolen, if carried with its stand.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete stand applied to a bicycle; Figs. 2, 3, 4t and 5 are detail views drawn to a larger scale; Fig. 6 shows a modified form of the stand, and Figs. 7 and 8 are detail views thereof.
Referring in the first instance to Figs. 1 to 5, the stand comprises a rear support consisting of a pair of legs 1, connected at the top by a horizontal piece to form a U-shaped member. These legs are pivoted to brackets l adapted to be clipped to the velocipede frame and are connected to these brackets, above the axis of the pivots, by springs 2, tending to hold the legs either in the nearly vertical position shown in Fig. 1, or in the nearly horizontal position indicated in the same figure by dotted lines. Pivoted to brackets 3 in front of the legs 1 are two struts 3, which are connected to their brackets by springs 1 tendingto hold them either in approximately vertical or approximately horizontal position; the horizontal posi tion is indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The legs 1 are provided with adjustable abutments 5 by means of which they can be engaged with the lower hooked ends of the struts 3, when the latter and the legs 1 are in their nearly vertical but converging positions. The struts 3 are of U-section and one of them contains a tumbler 6 adapted to be engaged with a notch in one of the legs 1, when the latter is engaged with the strut 3. The tumbler is held in its locking 1 position by a spring 7 and can only be to tated out of this position with the aid of a key.
hen the legs 1 are swung down and looked as described, they support the rear wheel of the machine clear of the ground. After disengagement of the tumbler 6 the legs 1 and struts 3 can be swung into their inoperative positions, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1.
The forward part of the velocipede stand comprises a leg 8 having a forked upper part 9 which is pivoted to a bracket 9 clipped to the front inclined tube of the machine frame. The leg 8, 9, is connected to its bracket by a spring 10 tending to hold it alternatively in its operative and inoperative positions. The forked part 9 carries at one side a plate spring 11 provided with a pin 12 adapted to enter holes in the bracket 9 for locking the leg in its operative and inoperative positions respectively. The spring 11 has also a lateral stud 13 by means of which the pin 12 can be pushed out of the said holes, for releasing the leg 8.
When the legs 1 and the leg 8 are lowered into their operative positions both wheels of the machine are supported clear of the ground.
In the construction shown in Figs. 6 to S, the rear support is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 to 3, and the same reference nu merals are used to denote the parts thereof. The front member of the stand, however, consists of a U-shaped leg 14, which is pivoted to brackets 15 clipped to the front wheel fork of the machine, and can be swung up behind this fork into the position indicated in Fig. 6 by broken lines. One of the brackets 15 carries a depending spring 16 provided with a horizontal lug 17, which forms a catch adapted to retain the leg 14 in its operative position, the spring being pushed aside, by means of a lug 18, to enable the leg to swing past the lug 17 into this position, so that it lies between the two lugs when the spring returns to normal po sition.
Clipped to the upper end of the wheel fork is a bracket 19 having rearwardly extending springy fingers 20, curved at their ends to form a spring clip adapted to engage one of the limbs of the leg 14; for the purpose of holding the latter in its inoperative position.
The stand can be fitted to any existing locipede frame so that when said leg is in a substantially vertical position the hooked end of said strutcan be engaged with said leg, and a key operated tumbler pivoted to said. strut and adapted engagement with said leg.
A velocipede support comprising a bracket, a supporting leg pivoted to said bracket, a second bracket, a strut pivoted to said second bracket and having a hooked end, said brackets being adapted to connect said leg and strut respectively to a velocipede frame so that when said leg is in a substantially vertical position the hooked end of said strut can be engaged with said leg, a key operated tumbler pivoted to said strut and adapted to lock said strut in e gagement with said log, a third bracket, a supporting leg pivoted to said third bracket, said third bracket being adapted to connect the second mentioned leg to a vclocipede frame so that l leg can be swung to and from its operative position, and means for locking said second mentioned alternatively in and out of its operative position.

A velocipede support comprising a bracket, a supporting leg pivoted to said bracket, a second bracket, a strut pivoted to said second bracket and having a hooked end, said brackets being adapted to connect said leg and strut respectively to a velocipede frame so that when said leg is in a substantially vertical position the hooked end of said strut can be engaged with said leg, a key operated tumbler pivoted to said strut and adapted to lock said strut in engagement with said leg, a third bracket, a supporting leg pivoted to said third bracket, said third bracket being adapted to connect the second mentioned leg to a velocipede frame so that said leg can be swung to and from its operative position, a spring connecting said second mentioned leg to its bracket so that said spring tends to hold said leg alternatively in its operative or inoperative position, and means for locking said second mentioned leg alternatively in and out of its operative position.

A velocipede support comprising a bracket, a leg pivoted to said bracket and having a notch, an abutment adjustably fixable to said leg, a second bracket, :1 strut pivoted to said second bracket and having a hooked end, said brackets being adapted to connect said leg and strut respectively to a velocipede frame so that when said leg is in a substantially vertical position the hooked end of said strut can be engaged with said abutment, and a key operated tumbler piv oted to said strut and adapted to enter said notch and lock said strut in engagement with said abutment.
