My invention relates to improvements in bottle attachments, and is designed for use more especially in connection with whisky bottlesV and the like, the object being to provide a device which may be applied to the ordinary whisky bottle'as standing upon the counter, and which may be conveniently operated by the bartender to deliver the requisite quantity of liquid for a single drink without requiring the bottle to be handled and uncorked, while at the same time, the bottle is always normally sealed to the outer air.
The invention includes the novel features of construction and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularlyr defined by the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which the figure represents a sectional elevation of the attachment as applied to a bottle, also shown in section.
Referring byreference characters to this drawing', the numeral l represents an ordinary bottle and 2 a head or member having a tapered portion 2a designed to fit the mouth of the bottle which is preferably provided with an annular packing of cork or like material indicated at 3 for effecting a tifrlit joint. The part 2 is preferably made by casting from any suitable material, and is provided with an integral spout 4 which communicates with a vertical passage 5 closed at its upper end and open at its lower end. Within this passage 5 is located a gravity valve member 6 which, under normal conditions, is designed to rest in the position shown in'the figure, in which position it closes the passage 4"n of the spout,
resting in this position uponthe packing i flange or gasket 7. This packingv or gasket 7 is removable to permit theinsertion and removal of the valve 6, and ,it serves to retain with a tight joint the upper end of a glass tube 8, which depends into close proximity to the bottom of the bott-le l. Through the body 2 and its tapered portion extends another passage 9, said body 2 being provided at its upperv end with a nipple also integralfand indicated at 9a, to which'is secured the lower end of the bulb 10, which is lprovided at a suitable point as, for instance, at its upper end, with an inlet opening l0a provided with a check valve 11.
The operation of my invention as above described will be apparent. V
Under normal conditions the contents of the bottle will be sealed to the outer air,
butwhen it is desired to-deliver a determined quantity of liquid from the bottle, it is only necessary that the bulb be collapsed by hand, when the air contained in the bulb will pass into the bottle, creating pressure upon the surface of liquid therein, and this causes the liquid to rise through the tube 8 to lift the valve 6 and ow into the chamber held beneath the spout.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. An attachmentfor bottles for the pur- I pose described, comprising a head having a passage leading through( the same, and a second passage therein closed at its uppery end and having 'a lateral delivery spout cbmmunicating with said passage below the upper end thereof, a vertically moving gravity valve in said second passage normally resting across the delivery spout, and liftable by the passageof fluid into the upper end of said second'p'assage, a delivery tube depending from said second passage, and means for forcing air into the rst passage, substantially as described.
