Be it known that I, DONALD S- Barrows,
Passaic county, New and being a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Operating Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription, such as will enable Others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and to use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred form of the invention, though it is to be understood that the invention is 'not limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, as it is obvious that Jersey,

The object of'the invent-ion is to provide means for opening and for closing and locking in closed positionlhe doors of what are commonly known as general cars, that is cars having flat bottom lportions, comprised wholly or partly of doors which are adapted to be dropped or opened to discharge the lading.
While any suitable means may be provided for operating the principal operating shaft,-I have shown no means in the drawngs as various devices are common'in the art for that purpose.

Connected to the operating shaft F at suitable intervals there are pinions 1 and meshing with these pinions are racks 2 best shown'in Fig. 1, which racks travel in engagement with rollers a held on pins 6 in guide plates 3 which swivel on the shaft F. The guides 3 may comprise each a single plate as illustrated in Figs. *1, 2 and 3 or they may comprise each a pair of plates dis posed upon shown in Fig. 1.
Connected to the outer end of each of the racks-2 is a bell crank lever 4 which is mounted on a pivot 5, supported in a suitable'bearing 6, which bearing is connected with the diaphragm.
The shorter arm of the bell crank 4 is'connected with the rack 2 while its longer arm extends, when the door is in closed'position, relatively vertically as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and carries at its upper end a suitable roller 7 adapted to bear against the lower face of the doors G, the roller 7 being carried on a laterally projecting extension of the bell crank 1 as best shown in Fig. 3.

14. In a door operating device, the combination comprising a door, an operating shaft, a support. for said shaft, a bell crank mounted on said support and slidably engaging said door and longitudinally s'lidable means connecting said shaft and bell crank.
15. In a door operating means, the combination comprising a door, an operating shaft, supporting means therefor, and a bell crank connected with both said shaft and said door in slidable engagement.

In a door operating means, the combination comprising a door, an operating shaft, supporting means therefor, a runway depending from said door and a bell crank slidably e'ngagingsaid runway to force the door open. 17. In a door operating means, the combination comprising a door, an operating shaft, supporting means therefor, a runway depending from said door, a bell crank engaging said runway and slidable connecting means for said shaft and bell crank.
