To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Millbourne, Delaware county, Pennsylvania,
have invented an Improved Plug-Switch, of
which the followingis a specification.
My invention is an improved plug switch characterized by a base havingl insulated chambers containing terminals with exposed parts for making connection with conductors, a top interlocked with the base and having insulating passages therethrough 1n line with the respective blades of said terminals, a plug `having terminal blades adapted to be thrust through said passages into said chambers in contact with the blades of said terminals, and oppositely extending lugs so fixed to said cover that the several arts can be fixed in a wall receptacle thereby; the base and top having registering end extensions through which screws are passed into said lugs whereby such parts are fixed together in a compact and strong structure providing superior guiding and insulating means for the cont-acting blades. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved switch with the plug removed; Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l with 3o the plug in place; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the'base, and Fig. 4 is an end View of the switch with the plug in place.
\ The insulating base l, preferably composed of porcelain, contains the insulated chambers la, the sockets 1b diagonally disposed with relation to the respective chambers, the sockets lc in line with the sockets l", and the sockets 1d in the end extensions le. The surfaces l* ofthe end extensions 40 are depressed below the surface 1g in which the chambers 1a terminate, these two surfaces being intersected by the inclined surfaces 1h, and shoulders 1k are thereby formed on opposite sides of the respective extensions, whereby the top, hereinafter described, is interlocked with the base.
Terminals 2 are disposed in the chambers la and anchors 2a forming parts thereof are fixed in the sockets 1b by screws 2b disposed in the sockets 1c. The parts 2c of theterminals pass through the slots ,-1j connecting the chambers l? and 1P., The anchors are provided with the screws 215 for binding the conductors. The blades 2e of the terminals posed of porcelain, contains the insulated j passages 3f* having their adjacent faces in registration with the adjacent faces of the chambers la with which they form continuous surfaces, rentrant angles 3b whereby the anchors 2a and binding screws 2d are rendered accessible, and end extensions 3 which register with the extensions le and contain the longitudinal channels 3d. The top is provided with the outer, central oval projection 35, and with the inner surfaces 3f, 3g and 3h which it the respective surfaces 1f, 1g and 1h, the extensions 3 bearing laterally against the shoulders l, whereby the top is held against lateral and longitudinal movement.
Screws 4 are passed through the sockets 1d, the ends le and 3, and the retaining lugs 5 which are seated in the channels 3d, these screws fixing the several parts firmly together in a solid construction by `which the .resilient terminal Vblades 2e lyingclose to the adjacent surfaces of the two chambers la are fully insulated.
The insulating plug body 6, suitably composed of fiber, contains the cent-ral aperture 6a for the passage of conductors, the sockets 6b for the binding screws 7, and the terminal blades 8, which are fixed to the body by the screws. These blades are rdisposed. so that they can be thrust through the passages 3a into the chambers l so as to make contact with the blades which `are wholly contained therein. The blades 8 are kept in proper positions by bearing on continuous surfaces of the passages and chambers and the resiliency of the blades 2e maintaining the contact. The blades 2e are provided with the sockets 2 and the blades 8 are provided with the protuberances-S adapted to snap into such sockets.
A cover plate 9, preferably made of brass pressed to shape, has an oval central aperture 9a whereby the plate is properly positioned, the conical flanges 9b pressed inwardly to form holes and bearings for the plate engaging screws 10 which pass through the holes 5a which fits the oval projection 3j of the lugs into the extensions 8, and the edge flanges 9 turned inwardly to provideV sions of said' base and passages registering with said blades, said top engaging the part ot' said base separating' said chambers, screws passing through said endextensions, and a lug having blades adapted to be thrust tiirough said passages into said chambers to make cont-act therein with said blades first named. i

A switch vcomprising a base having front surfaces disposed in different planes including depressed end planes, said base containing insulating chambers, a'top having rear` surfaces disposed in dierent planes respectively registering with said first named planes, said top having insulated passages registering with said chambers, termina'ls having blades wholly disposed in said chambers, and a plug having terminals adapted to be thrust through said passagesy into said chambers into contact with said terminals firstinamed.
3. A switch comprising a base having end extensions of reduced thickness, said base containing insulated chambers and terminals therein, a top having end extensions of increased thickness registering with said extensions lirst named, said top having insulated passages therethrough registering with said chambers, screws passing through said end extensions whereby said top and base are `fixed together, and a plug having terminals adapted to be thrust through said passages into said chambers intov engagement with said first named terminals.
4. A switch comprising a base having end extensions and containing insulating chambers, a top having end extensions registerlng with said extensions rst named andan interbase separating said chambers, said top containing passages registering with said chambers, fastening lugs supported by the extensions of said top, screws extending through said end extensions and lugs, terminals provided with contacting parts disposed wholly in said chambers and having exposed binding screws, 'and a plug having terminals adapted to be thrust through said passages into said chambers into contact with said .terminals first named.
