F ANZ HEINRICH ALBERT, OF LOIJI, CALIIECXBJXIA;
TURBINE-AIRSHIP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed Octoberlfi, 1911: Serial Ref-654,891.
Patented Oct. 22, 1-912.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, Fnaxz H. ALBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lodi, in the county of San Joaquin, State of 5 California, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Turbine-Airships; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the characters of ref: erence marked thereon, whichforms a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in air craft of all kinds, and particularly to an air ship designed to be operated by turbine propeller, the object of the invention being to produce avessel which will have a tremendous velocity or air pressurebelow and above, whereby it will move forward and upward at great speed and in an accurate, direct manner without any danger of tipping either at the ends or sides.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and-inexpensive device, and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of. parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawing similar characters of reference indicate corresponding .parts.
The figure in the drawing is a top plan view of the complete ship.
Referringnow more particularly to the charactcrsof reference on the drawing, I first provide two cylindrical spaced apart and suitably joined by connecting members 2, on'top of which memhers I is disposed a deck or platform 3, provided witha suitable side railing 4. In the top and bottom of the member 1 I provide a plurality of air doors or openings '5, provided with sliding shutters 6, whereby said doors 5 may beclos'cd or opened in a manner as will be shown.
'Within the cylindrical casings 1 I provide two tu rb ine .'auger-shaped propellers 7 suitably moon (1 on shafts 8 having gears 9 connected'b ,ichains 10 with gears-11 on 4 casings 1 the deck 3. The shutters 6 are provided with rods l t suitably connected by links and levers 15 with operating levers 16 disposed in front of the-operat'ors seat 17, whereby.-
a shaft 12 driven by a motor 13 mounted on through the rear of the membe S li-Which causes the ship to move forward andnthen the doors in the under side of the members 1- are opened, which drives the air with great velocity therethrough, and causes the ship torise, the doors in the top being .thenelosed. Then when it is desired to lower the shipagain, thc'doors in'the undersidc'of the meml'iers 1 may lie-closed and those in the top opened, and this will drive the air upward with great velocity and permit the ship to be lowered rapidly and still be under the control of the operator. 4
I prov de a rudder 18 operated by cables 19 disposed around a drum 20 having an operating-handle 21 for the purpose of turning the same one way or the other.'
From the foregoing description it will readily appear that; I have produced such a device as-substa "tially fulfils the objects.
of the invention a set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device,.still in practice such deviation from such detail may be resortedtoas do not form a departure from the Spirit of the invention as set forth herein.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to se' cure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described comprising two cylindrical members spaced apart. screw shaped turbine propellers turnably disposed iii said cylindrical members, a
motor for ds ivi'ng-said turbines, said cylindrical. members being providd with open:
apart, a platform secured on said members,
screw shaped turbine propellers turnlbly disposed in said cylindrieal members, a l netor for dnvmg. said tuxybmes, said cylindrical members being provided with openings form, links (pnnectin'g saidlevers vith said rods, links 01: the other ends of-sa d levers and an operating lever connecting with said last named links, as described.
In testimony whereof I afi'ix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANZ HEINRICH ALBERT. Witnesses FRANK H.' CARTER,
STEPHEN N. BLEWETTL.
