To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, EDWARD SAvoY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chappell Hill, in the county of Washington and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds for Making Nell-Curbing, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a mold for making well curbing sections, tiles, etc, of cement or other plastic materials, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and convenient construction of portable mold embodying inner and outer forming sections and cooperating parts which may be readily set up for use and taken apart for storage or transportation, and in which said sections may be respectively opened and contracted for the removal of the formed article.
A further object of the invention is to provide a mold having improved fastening means for holding the elements in forming position; a readily applicable and remov- 5 able top section whereby the filling of the mold is facilitated; and means for forming dowel seats in the lower ends of the formed articles.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

The mold comprises in general a base or pallet 1, anouter shell, casing or forming section 2, and an inner shell, case or forming section 3, which may be octangular in form, as shown, or of circular or any other suitable shape for forming a curb section or tile of any desired external configuration.
The base or pallet 1 is provided with an upstanding rib d and is adapted to concentrically support the shells 2 and 3, the lower ends of which rest upon said base and against the outer and inner faces of the rib, whereby said shells are held properly separated to form the intervening mold space or chamber 5. Pins or projections 6 project upward from the rib at desired intervals.
Each shell is open at bottom and top and formed of sheet metal or other suitable material. As shown, each shell also consists of a body split longitudinally from top to bottom at one side so as to admit of expansion and contraction, the shell 2 being provided with overlapping joint portions 7 and 8 and the shell 3 with overlapping joint portions 9 and 10.
One of the laps of each shell is provided with a plurality of pivoted latches 11 to engage keepers 12 on the other lap of said shell, whereby the shell, which is normally contracted by its resiliency, may be held closed or contracted against expansion. Each latch member consists of a strip of sheet metal pivoted at one end, having a rolled finger piece 13 at its free end, and formed with an intermediate vertical transverse slot 1 forming a superposed engaging portion 15. Each keeper member is also formed of a strip of sheet metal riveted or otherwise fastened in position and bent at right angles at one end to provide a flange 16 having a vertical slot 17 opening through its upper edge and forming an underlying engaging portion 18. The latch is adapted to be swung down so that its portion 15 fits into the slot 17 and so as to receive the portion 18 within its slot 14:, whereby a firm and secure fastening connection is obtained.
The top of the inner or core section 3 terminates in line with the top of the outer or casing section 2 and a removable lid or cover 19 is provided for closing the same against the entrance of the plastic material while the latter is being filled into the mold. This lid or cover is provided with a suitable handle 20. For the purpose of facilitating the filling of the mold chamber with the plastic material, a removable top flange or section 21 is employed. The lower portion of said flange or top section is adapted to snugly fit down upon and about the section 2, while the upper portion 22 of said flange or top section is flared outward, as shown. At intervals the lower portion of the flange or top section is slitted to form spring clamping fingers 23 adapted to engage the inner wall of the section 2, when the flange is slipped down upon said section, to hold said flange in position, the fingers 23 are integrally connected with the flange or top section by angular webs 23 which are properly inclined to form stop shoulders to rest upon the upper edge of the shell and limit the downward movement of the flange or top section.
In forming a curb section or tile, the parts of the mold are assembled and the shells fastened in closed or contracted condition, as shown. The plastic material is then filled in and tamped at intervals until the mold chamber is filled up to the desired level, when the top of the plastic material is leveled in any suitable manner. After the material has hardened to asuflicient extent, the lid and top section are removed and the latches of the inner and outer shells unfastened, allowing said shells to be respectively expanded and contracted and removed to expose the formed curb section ortile. The pins or projections 6 form dowel seats or recesses in the lower edge of the curb section or tile and similar seats or recesses may be suitably formed in the top edge of said curb section or before it hardens, whereby'a series of curb sections or tiles may be accurately centered and dowelpinned together, as will be readily understood.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A mold of the character described comprising a pallet base, spaced inner and outer shells resting on the base and forming a mold chamber, and a top flange or removable section formed to fit about the upper edge of the outer shell, said flange having instruck portions providing spring grip ping fingers and angular webs or shoulders to respectively engage the inner surface of the shell and rest upon the upper edge of the shell. 7 a V 2. A mold of the character described comprising a pallet base, spaced split expansible inner and outer shells supported by the base and forming a mold chamber, each shell being provided with overlapping meeting edges, coacting pairs of fixed and pivoted fastening members on the overlapping" and a removable top flange or sectlonengaging the upper edge of the outer shell.
