HAME-FASTENER.
Specification of iLetters Patent.
Application filed October 6, 1911. Serial N 0. 653,149.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED M. HOWE and MAURICE D. Home, citizens of the United States, residing at Wellsboro, in the county of Tioga, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Heme-Fastener, of which the following. is a specification.
This,invention relates to improvements in what are ordinarily termed hame fasteners.
The invention has primarily for its object to readily adjust or accommodate the hame members to the size of the collar.
A further object is to provide for quickly or expeditiously actuating the device iniapplying it for use.
A still further object is to adapt the device so as to be capable of its maximum effectiveness, while it is characterized for simplicity and ready actuation.
A still further object is to carry out the aforesaid ends in a simple, efiective and in:
expensive manner.
The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of our invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein as relates to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of our invention, Figure 1 is a perspective, partly in section, of the invention, the same being in unfastened position, and the lower ends or terminals of the hame members or sections shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, partly in section, of the device, the same being in fastened position. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 00-03 of Fig. 2, viewing in the direction indicated by the arrows. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 2, viewing in the direction indicated by the arrows.
In carrying out our invention, we construct the same preferably of three parts or members designated as 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The member 1, which has one end formed into a hook 4: for engagement with a hame section is preferably of approximately U-shape, the inner surface of the bottom of the U being provided preferably with a plurality of perforations 5 at suitable intervals, as seen particularly in Figs. 1 and 2, the purpose of which will be apparent the member 1.

is hung or fulcrumed the lever 3 having an inclined slot 9, receiving said pivot pin as seen especially in Figs. 1 and 2.
Thetransverse pin 8, it will be seen, is
adapted to engage any of the notches 6 of the member 1, the engagement being effected actuating the lever 3, said lever engaging at-its salient end 10 the perforations 5 of Such adjustment or movement of the pin 8, which is eflected as the lever 3 is actuated as just stated, provides for suitably effecting the fastening and unfastening operation, also for enablingthe hame members to conform to the size of the collar, as may be required. The requisite shifting of the lever 3 is provided for through the medium of the inclined slot 9 therein as is obvious, the lever, as engagement is effected therebetween and the perforations 5 of the member 1, providing for prying the pin 8 out of registering perforations and allowing the bringing of said pin into succeeding registering perforations for that purpose, as will be readily understood.
The lever 3 has a hooked terminal 11 which is adapted to engage a transverse pin 12 secured in the member 2, near one end thereof, for suitably securing the lever in effective position when the locking pin 8 of the member 2 is in engagement with the notches 6 of the member 1, as is readily apparent and as seen by reference to Fig. 2. Also it is obvious that by throwing the lever a little more than half-way over, the device is readily detached from the hames. The lever 3 is preferably provided with a fingerhold 13, near one end for its convenient actuation.
It is therefore thought that the advantages and benefits of my invention have been fully disclosed from the foregoing description and accompanying illustration, among which may be mentioned its extreme simplicity, consequently inexpensiveness of manufacture, while it is readily applied for use and is effective in operation.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described, including a hame-attached member, an opposite hame-attached member of general bifurcated outline, between the arms of which bifurcated hame-attached member is received the first referred to hame-attached member, said bifurcated hame attached member having a transverse pin, and a lever having a slot receiving said pin, said firstreferred to hame-attached member being provided with a plurality of notches, adapted for engagement With said pin, and with a series of apertures arranged in the upper portion of said first referred to hame-attached member, said lever also having a salibe engaged by said hooked terminal.
2. A device of the character described, including a hame-attached member approximately U-shaped in transverse section, the
bottom of the U being provided with apertures, the free longitudinal edges of the arms of the U being notched, an opposite hame attached member of general bifurcated outline, between the arms of which bifurcated hame attached member is received the notched hame-attached member, said bifurcated hame attached member having a pin adapted to engage the notches of said notched hame attached member, and a lever member having a slot receiving said transverse pin, said lever having a salient point adapted to engage the apertures in the bottom surface of the U-shaped hame attached member, said lever having a hooked terminal, and said bifurcated hame attached member having an additional pin adapted to be engaged by said hooked terminal.
