SCOOP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY V. hTORRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Benton Harbor, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful TII1PIOV6D1GI1tS in Scoops, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to render unnecessary the usual procedure of first arranging a funnel in a bag and either holding with one hand the connected funnel and bag, or arranging them in inverted posi' tion on a counter or the like, while filling a scoop with the material for the bag. And to this end the invention consists in so connecting a funnel with a scoop as not to hinder the ready filling of the scoop when the same is dipped into flour, sugar or the like, but when the funnel is arranged in the bag, to receive the material from the scoop and con vey it into the bag when the scoop is tilted.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specifica lion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective of the device showin it inclined and in position to deliver material into a Fig. 2 is a detail front elevation with the funnel in raised position.
The scoop a is of usual or preferred construction and formed of any material found suitable for the purpose such as wood, metal or a combination of these. The handle Z) which is suitably connected to the back of the scoop, may be of any preferred construc tion and if desired, may be formed of the same material as the scoop.
The mouth of the funnel 5 is flared and of such diameter as to admit of the insertion thereinto for a short distance, of the front end of the scoop a. The cross sectional contour of the mouth may be circular or as shown, such contour may be rectangular to conform to the bottom of the scoop.
The ears or lugs 6-6 fern ed on opposite portions of the mouth of the funnel 5, bear on the sides of the scoop a. and the pivot pins 77 which pass through the said sides of the scoop and the ears or lugs, are positioned at such distances from the front end of the scoop, as to admitof the scoop and mouth of the funnel being moved into and out of alinement with each other, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

When the parts are positioned as shown in Fig. 2, the scoop may be readily filled when it is dipped into such material as grain, flour, sugar and the like, and after such filling and with the funnel lowered as shown in Fig. 1 and inserted into the bag, the material in the scoop, when the scoop is tilted, will fall therefrom into the funnel and be conveyed thereby into the bag.
In order to facilitate the adjusting of the funnel into the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2, I make use of a yoke S or its equivalent and by inturning the arms of this yoke and directing them through openings in the lugs or ears 66 and connecting the middle portion of the yoke with an operating element such as a slide 9, arranged on the handle I) and formed with a finger piece 10, so thatby pressing on the said finger piece 10 with the thumb of the hand Which holds the handle Z), the funnel may be moved into the position shown in Fig. l or that shown in Fig. 2. In this connection it will be observed that the inturned end portions 1]. of the sides of the yoke 8 extend over the edges of the sides of the scoop and form stops which limit the movements of the funnel.
that I claim as new is:
1. The combination with a scoop, of a fun nel pivotally connected thereto and including side, top and bottom walls, the connection between the scoop and funnel causing the bottom wall of the funnel to underlie the bottom of the scoop when the parts are in operative position.
2. The combination with a scoop, of a funnel pivotally connected thereto, and means for elevating the funnel with relation to the scoop, said means serving to limit the opera tive movement of the funnel with relation to the scoop to position the latter in discharging relation to the scoop.
3. The combination with a scoop, of a funnel pivotally connected thereto, a yoke con-- nected to the funnel, and means for moving the yoke to adjust the funnel with relation to the scoop, a portion of the yoke serving as a stop to limit the operative movement of the funnel with relation to the scoop.
