Be it known that I, HENRY F. Gonrz, a citizenof the United States, residing at \Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Jewel- Cups; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in

My invention relates to an improvement in bath room accessories, and more particularly to cups designed to be used as jewel cups, as soap dishes, or as tumbler cups, according to their specific form and location, the object being to produce at a reasonable cost a compact and attractive article constructed with particular reference to cheapness of manufacture, ease of being kept clean, and capacity to take a high finish.

With these ends in view, my invention consists in a cup having certain details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

In carrying out my invention as herein shown, I produce from a single piece of sheet-metal a cup-lining 2, having its edge rolled over to form a bead 3 receiving the edge of a sheet-metal cup-body 4 which substantially corresponds in diameter to the cup-lining 2 but is a trifle deeper than the same, the said cup-body being formed with a central circular opening 5 entered by three integral fingers 6 arranged equidistant from each other. The inner edge of the cup-body rests upon a shoulder 7 formed at the upper end of a tubular standard 8 formed Specification of Letters Patent.

with circumferential ornamental grooves 9 and 10 located one above the other, and having its lower end reduced in diameter to form a stem 11 which is externally threaded to permit the cup to be readily mounted. At its open upper end the standard 8 is formed with a retaining flange 12 which is passed upward through the opening 5 in the cupbody 4; and spun outward so as to be turned down upon the retaining fingers 6 of the cup-bod yas shown in Fig. 6. There are three of these fingers, and they are passed through three out of siX notches 13 formed in the flat sheet-metal coupling washer 1 1 which is seated upon the upper face of the cup-body so as to be concentric with the circular opening 5 therein. In this way the Washer 14 is held against rotation with respect to the cup-body 4t, while the cup-body 4 is held against rotation with respect to the standard 8 by bits of solder 15 which are dropped into the three notches 13 not occupied by the fingers 6 of the cup-body, these bits of solder 15 being shown in Fig. 5. The washer, it will be seen, reinforces the joint between the cup-body 4 and standard 8.

In producing my improved jewel cup, th washer 14 is first positioned upon the bottom of the cup-body 4 with three of its notches 18 in registration with the three fingers 6 of the cup-body. The said fingers 6 are now bent upward into the said notches and then outward therein, as shown in Fig. 6 so as to couple the washer and cup-body. The flange 12 of the standard 8 is now passed through the circular opening 5 of the cup-body after which the said flange 12 is spun over and out-ward upon the bent fingers 6 as shown in Fig. 6. Bits of solder 15 are now dropped into the vacant notches 13 in the washer 1 1 after which the lining 2 is positioned and its bead 3 turned over upon the outer edge of the cup-body 4.

I claim In a jewel cup, the combination with a cup-body having a central circular opening formed with a plurality of inwardly projecting coupling fingers, of a washer arranged upon the upper face of the said body concentric with the opening therein and formed with a plurality of notches spaced with reference to the spacing of the said fingers, of which there are more notches than fingers, and a hollow standard provided at its upper end with a retaining specification in the presence of two subscribflange adapted to be passed upward through ing witnesses.
