GAIsirAN, a. citizen of the United States, and resident of Newv York city, borough of Manhattan, in. the county of New Yrdrk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razors, of which the following is a specification. o

My invention relates to im rovements 1n the class of razors used in t e manner of an ordinary razor having the shank extending in the direction of the edge of the' blade, and the objects of my invention areto enable a thin blade to be detachably su ported in connection with a guard; to ena le the guard to have limited swin ing movement with respect to the blade e ge during use; to enable a ldouble edged blade to be used, and the guard adjusted withl respect to either edge as required; to protect the rear edge of a double edged blade to prevent injury to the user, while the O posite edge is vbeing used; to enable the bla e to be held with its cuttin edge or edges away from the guard, whi e` the razor is being cleaned or stropped, and to provide a razor which will be eiicientin use and convenient in operation.

My invention comprises novel details of improvement and arrangements of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims. Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein,

At 1, 2 are plates movably connected togiether at one end, as by a. suitable hinge 3, and adapted to clamp between them a suitable blade 4;, such as a double edge relatively thin blade. To one of the plates, as the plate 1, at one end is attached a suitable shank 5, which may be pivotally connected with a suitable handle 6. vAt the end opposite shank 5 plate 1 is provided with a pro- ,"ection or stud 7. Plate 1 is provided with 'ins or studs 8 suitably spaced apart and adapted to pass through suitable openings 4 in blade It, and plate 2 is provided with openings 2 to receive thc pins or studs 8, whereby the blade is detachably clamped in position between plates 1 and Said plates are maintained in clamping relation by any .suitable means, such as by the frictional engagement of studs 8 with plate 2 at the openings 2, or by the spring-like action of the parts. 4

At 10 is a guard frame journaled upon shank 5 and stud 7, and adapted to inclose the blade along and around its edges and ends. Said frame is shown provided. with a sleeve 11 rotatively mounted upon shank 5 and with a' sleeve 12 at the opposite end rotatively mounted upon stud 7. One of the longitudinal bars or parts 10 of the guard frame constitutes the guard for the blade edge, and the comb 'teeth 10b of the guard may be produced by suitably stamping the metal of the bar. The bar 10c of the guard frame vis made relatively wide to project on opposite sides of the adjacent blade edge to guard` and protect the latter` (see Fig. 5). Guard frame 10 is permitted limited lateral swinging movement in use with respect to the blade edge, and isalso adapted to be maintained out of correlation. with the bladefedge to permit ready cleaning of the razor. To this end stud 7 is provided with suitably disposed spaced teeth or projections 7kx which may be formed by making cut-s or recesses 7 b in the end of the stud at right angles to each other, and sleeve 12 is provided with a transverse pin or bar 128L adapted to fit in one or the other transverse recesses 7b, whereby the corresponding projections 7 will maintain thc guard frame in the positions to which it may be turned. In order that the guard 10 may swing a limited distance with respect to the blade edge during shaving the recesses 7b are sufficiently wide to permit cross bar 12 to have freedom of movement or play between the corresponding pairs of projections 7.
