My tie is cut from a. sheet of metal and or." slot 3 is fitted a key 41., purposely cut wedge form so that it will fit into an angled mortise forming a part of the opening 3 in said lugs 2, which key will readily adapt and another portion 11 extended to lock the bell crank levers G in place. Inthe sides of said channel, and preferably before ,the same is bent to form the channel, are cut open slots 12 opening into the slits by which the lugs 2 are cut in form. Before said clamps 9 are placed in position within the channel 1, a projecting pin 13, secured in each of said bell crank levers 6, is fitted within said open slots 12, which pin forms the fulcrum of said bell crank levers. Said pins 13 have cylindrically formed heads 14 thereon to prevent the pivot pins 13 of the said bell crank lever 6 from laterial removal from said cuts 12, and also to aid in holding said clamps 9 in place within the channel 1. The pivot pins13 insaid bell cranklevers permit saidlevers: being turned thereon in position to allowsaid clampsto enter the channel and engage the flangcof the rail. The' bell crank levers. are then turned on their pivots 13 until the arms 7 of said levers engage the portions 10 of said clamps 9.- The wedges 15 are then inserted between the lower end of two of said bell crank levers 6, one of said wedges on each side of the channel 1. Eacl'rof said bell crank levers 6 has its lower portion cut at anangle opposed to the angled edges of the wedges 15, with the acute angle of said portion extended outwardly, thereby forming a lock against lateral removal of said wedges 15, which wedges are held in place by gravity and in contact with said bell crank levers 6 and contiguous to the sides of the channel 1. When said locking wedges 15 are in. place, a locking block 5 is inserted within' the slot 3 of the lugs 2 and of vertical thickness sufficient to bear on'the upper side of said wedge 15 and in contact with the'bottom of a rail. The keys are then inserted within their angled mortise seats to prevent no the lmintentional withdrawal or displace meat of said locking blocks 5.
