PETER McMANUS AND GEORGE W. LATIMER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent N 103,909, dated June 7, 1870.
IMPROVED PASTE FOR POLISHING METALS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To whom it may concern Be it known that we, PETER MoMAxUs and GEORGE W. LATIMER, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Paste for Polishing Metals; and we do declare that the following is a true and accurate formula for preparing the same. 7
The nature of this invention relates to the composition ofa paste for producing a brilliant polish when applied to the surface of metals, which shall be durable and not injurious thereto.
To prepare our compound, we take about seven pounds of pulverized rotten-stone in a vessel, and stir in, until thoroughly incorporated therewith, three pounds of pulverized bath brick. To this mixture we add three pints of sweet oil, and three pints of good soft soap. The whole is then stirred together and passed through a paint-mill, which reduces the sarne to a smooth mixture, which, after packing in suitable boxes, is ready for market.
To clean and polish silver-ware, plated-goods, brass, tin, cutlery, 850., take a little of the paste on a dry flannel cloth and rub on the article to be polished until the article appears clean, and then finish up with a chamois-skin, when a brilliant polish will be produced, which cannot injure the metal, cannot be alfected by water, hot or cold, steam, or atmospheric changes, retaining its luster until worn or rubbed ofi'.
\Ve claim as our invention The polishing-paste, when compounded of the in gredients and in the proportions herein described.
PETER McMANUS.
- GEO. W. LATIMER.
