Description

0. L. PHILLIS. DEVIQE FOB. INDIOATING LIQUID MEASURE.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 27, 1912.
Patented Sept. 17, 1912 WITNESSES.-
A TTORNE Y5? This invention re of Allegheny and State 0 mm srrnrns PA ur. curios;
omanuon L. rnrnms, or Mo nar mention-,1 r nunsrrivamn.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, (immense L. Rename, a citizen of the UnitedStates of America, residing at Mount Lebanon in the county f Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Devices for Indicating iquid Measure, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
ates to a device for indicating liquid measure, and the (primary object of m invention 1s to provi e a device for in icati'ng the number of times a faucet spigot or other outlet valve has been opened, thereby insuring a correct record 0 the number of times iquid has been're moved from a tank or. othe'r receptacle.
Another object of this invention is to rovide an indicator adapted'to be actuated by theweight of a receptacle suspended from a fulcrumed lever of thedevice, the lever, be
ing arranged whereby a bucket or; receptacle can be placed beneath the spigot, faucet or valve '0 a tank.
- I accomplish theabove objects by a devieethat has been particularly designedfor large oil tanks carried by wagons and'from which the oil is removed by using largebuckets of a prescribed puantity. In transferring o l from a porta theoil to,keep arr account of the number of buckets ofoil, removedv solely by memory,
and due'i to interruptions inaccuracies occur whereby a consumer 1s often charged with l one or two buckets more-or less than entitled 'to. The device which'I have designed rei in like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in p which Figure 1 is a plan of the device as applied to a faucet. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a detached device; 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the device, and Fig. 5 is Application filed January 27, 1am. serial steam e tank to a stationary tanh-gitjis'the practice of the vendor of 24; can be detachable and Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented 17, 1912.
an elevation of a detached actuating member. I a I The reference numeral 1 denotes" a faucet,
spigot or other outlet valve having an 0 orhaseen employed heretofore for supportm' thebailf of a receptacle, as an o l can. I e faucet 1" hasth'e spout 4-thereof' 'pro v1ded with an apertured extension 5' and detachably mounted, in said extension is the: depending arm 6 oi-a flat casing 7 havingated, as at 10,
Pivotall bolt 11 a a nut 12 is alever 1'3; and" jivotally conneeted'to'the shortarm 14 of said lever 'by'a rivet -,14'.';is; the lug 15 of a curved holder'lfi. the promotion-r3 .andis adapted t 'su port ,2 the all ofia r'eoeptacle instead of sai proijection, said promotion limiting the n1ovement of theholden lagheuon arm' of the lever 1?, extends into'the casin 7; as at 1-7, Pivotally connected I to the bi of the lever 13 by apin 18 isthe up r end 19 of an hrshaped ".actuatin e'm eE-PQOI This member has the 1011 ,steni" ereof providedwith a tooth 21 a apted -\to engage aratchetwheel 22 mounted'npon; a'shaft '23 revolubly mountedbetweenthe' dial 9 and the rearwall 24ofthe casing Mounted upon the shaft 23 isia small gear; wheel 25 meshing with a large gearl wheel 26 mounted upon an indicator Shaft, 27jou1na1din the dial 9 and the rear wall 24 of thegcasing. The member 20 spans the shaft 27,'andfsa1d shaft has the outer end thereof provided with an indicator or pointer 28 adapted to designate the graduations-upon the. d git).
In order that the parts of the indicator can be assembled, the dial 9 or the said parts secured one side of the casing, said dial being gradumeans 29.
the shaft 23 is rotated through the medium of the ratchet wheel 22, said shaft. 1m artby moving the indicator or pointer 28, which designates upon the dial 9 ing a rotary movement to the shaft 2'1, t erethe number of.
atin handle 2, and a projection 3, w ich,

ceptacle is placed upon the holder-16, the
times the receptacle has been placed on the holder 16. The indicator can be restored to its normal position by rotating the shaft 27 through the medium of the indicator or ointer 28.
The indicator in its entirety can be'made of light and durable metal and used in connection with beer faucets, spigots' and the outlet valves of various kinds of liquids.
What I claim is l. lhe combination with a faucet, of an arm detachably connected thereto, a casing carried by said arm, a lever pivotally connected to said arm and ext-ending into the casing, a pivoted curved holder carried by the outer end of said lever and adapted to support a receptacle beneath the-end of said faucet, and an indicating mechanism carried by said casing and adapted to be actuated by said lever to indicate the number of times said receptacle is placed upon said holder.
2. In an indicator, the combination with a faucet, of an arm detachably connected thereto, a casing carried by said arm, a lever pivotally mounted upon said arm and extending into said casing, a pivoted holder carried by the outer end of said arm and adapted to support a receptacle beneath said faucet, an h shaped actuating member pivotally supported by said lever Within said casing, and an indicating mechanism carricd'by said casing and adapted to be actuated by said member to indicate the number of times the receptacle is suspended ber 'of times the receptacleisiplaced'lfioo nggs aid holderl i p M 3. An indicator of the type comprising an arm, casing carried them; by, a lever pivotally cen nected to s fid arm and extending into said casingf, ia lio ldr: 40 pivotally carried by said holder-arid adap ,5 ed to support a receptacle, an h shaped ami tuating member carriedeby saidlever ii'i tin" said casing, and an indicatorshaftgadap'ted to be operated by said member, substantially as described. a
4:. An indicator of the type described comprising an arm, a casin earried there-p by, a lever pivotally connectedioSaid arm and extendinginto said casing, a pivoted fvo' holder carried by saidlever andad-apted' to support a receptacle, an h shaped actnating member carried by said lever "within said casing, a ratchet \WhOGl adapted to be actuated bysaid member, an indicator shaft adapted to be rotatedthrough the medium of said ratchet Wheel, andnn jpdicator or pointer carried'by said shaft cxt'eriorly of said casing and adapted to indicate the numfrom saidholder, substantial y as des cribed. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of twdwitnesses.
