Be it known that I, Carni Ciiiiis'rinnsniv, a subject of the King ot' Great Britain, residing at Vancouver', in the lrovince ot British Coluinbiaaiid Dominion ot Canada.` have invented certain-new and usct'ul mproveniente in Annunciators of which the following is a specification, reference being had-therein to the accompanyingdrawing. this invention relates to an improvement in annunciators tor street cars and has for its principal object to provide means wherehy the passengers within the car may be readily informed as 'to the naine of; the next stopping place. This objectis attained by the provision of a casing at each end of the inside oit the car and mounted ahove the door way. A tape with the names of dilierent streets is carried Within the casing and means are carried hy said casing for manually operating the tape to indicate the name of the street.

When it is desired to show a certain street7 the"conduc`tor grnsps the line 40 and pulls the seme causing the pulleys to turn the shafts 19 whichv in turn rotate thefdrums 17 and 17b in both easing's 1l, causing the tape 22 to unroll from drums 1'(at to 17h und run longitudinally of the openings 16 in the cusings and when the neme .of the'desired street is exposed through said open,- ing' then the conductor releases the line 40 und any passenger within the our muy readily see the nume of the next stopping place. Thus names are shown through opening from first nume at start to last et end of route in both cusings. It willl he seen from the onegoing that a device has been supplied which is simple in construction, durable, effective and easily operated.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is An annunciator for street cars comprising u casing, annunciating Ineens carried by seid easing, said annunciating means com-Y prising a strip of material having charac! ters formed thereon, spools on which. said strip is Wound, shafts carrying said spools; e second casing adjacent the frstmentioned casing, und provided with a pair of longitudinally extending openings, blocks longitudinall'y7 slidulole in said casing, :i shaft projecting,l from euch of said blocks and eX- tending through one of Suid ope,nings,guide rollers carried by said lust mentioned shafts, springs mounted between the ends of said casing und said blocks, and means for operating said :innuneiating Ineens, seid menus 4comprising pulleys on said shafts, und u cord trained over said pulleys und passing between said guide rollers.
