To all whom z' may' concern:
Be it linown that I, GUSTAVE 'WENZEL MANN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Balin -Press, of which the following is a speci cation.
My present invent-ion relates to that class of presses which are commonly employed for baling paper, rags, etc., and in which the material is first placed wit-hin the box orcasing, then compacted by a rammer, and which materialreceives the final compression from a screwactuated follower or platen.
The leading object ofthe invention is to provide for quick movement of the crossbeam or screw-beam whereby it may be shifted from its central .(or normal and operative position to a position at the rear edge o the box, where it will not in the least degree interfere with the operation of manually packing or ramming the material being operated upon, and from which posit-ion it may be as quickly shifted back to the one for operation.
Also it is an object to provide simple-and unique coacting means whereby when the removable door is laid down, the bale may be slid thereover, the door then performing the functions of a skid. f,
Minor objects will be in part pointed out.
To the end of carrying out these ends and objects the invention consists in constructions and combinations hereinafter described and claimed. u In carrying out the above generally stated objects of the invention, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features of the'same are susceptible of changes in details, structure, and structural arrange ments, certain practical and preferred embodiments of which are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

A pair of hooks 6, 6 are suit-ably secured in the lower part of the box and their rect-singularly bent' ends constitute keepers for the lower end of a door 8, the inner face of which is provided with a transverse recess 9 for a purpose presently described. Fixed to and cen trally of the upper portion of each side is a loop 10, open toward the rear.
Fixe-d to and near the outer corners of the back 4 are a pair of bent brackets 11, the horizontal arms of which act as guides for the cross or screw-beam 13, which is provided with transverse apertures which loosely receive said arms, whereby the beam may slide freely back and forth thereon. Said beam is provided also with a pair of vertically arranged apertures for the4 reception of bolts 15, the lower ends of which are engaged bynuts 16, and the stems of which are adapted to slide into the loops 10.
