' Be it known thatL HERMANN NEWMANN, a' citizen 'of Germany, residing at New 'York city, county and State of New York,- have invented a -new and Improved Turret Attachment for Engine-Lathes, of which the follow-ing -isa specification.
This invention relates t0 a novel turret for lathes which is adapted to be secured more particularly to the slide restof an engine lathe.
The turretcomprises essentially a rotatable holder that supports a plurality of tools extending alternately in a radial and axial direction.
The invention further' comprises novel means for locking said holder against rotation, after a selected tool has been brought into working-position. y

M-y turret 'attachment is shown to be secured to the to-p slide of a cross-feed slide rest 11, although it is obvious that it may also be supported by a compound slide rest without depart-ing from the spirit of my invention. Slide 10 is provided with a rela'-l tively iixed- Z-shaped support 12, the upper horizontal'arm ofwhich 1s rovided with a groove 13. Into the latter is fitted the depending feather 14 of an L-shaped bracket 15, the parts 1 2 and 15 being held in position by passage of a screwbolt 18, the head 19 of recess of va "circular-tool holder 20, whereby a screw=21 tapped into said head andholder prevents an independent rotation of these parts. 'Diskl 20` is preferably slightly vided with a plurality of spaced bosses 22 preforated as `at 23, six of said bosses being shown in the drawing.l Perforations 23 extend'in parallelism with the axis of bolt 18 and are adapted for the'reception'of suit-` able tools (not sh'own), which may be held in position by clamp screws 24. Lever 38 is then thrown up to release nut 34and the AAea Y latter is turned by hand to impart a correaxis ofthe holder being ascertained-by the cooperation of the notched disk 28 and de-g tent"'31.` Nut 34 is now tightened up bye to said y'holder by "hand, and lever 38 is tilted until its` lower arm engages one of the grooves-l0, wherebyy the handle of said lever is utilized for linally tightening nut 34, in which position the parts remain until a furtheryexchange of tools is necessary when the operation described is repeated.
I claim:
1. A turret for lathes comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to a sliderest, a bolt rotatably mounted in said bracket, a tool-holder non-rotatably secured to one end of the bolt, a grooved clamping nut carried by the other end of the bolt and adapted to frictionally engage the bracket, a ring encompassing the nut, andV al lever pivoted to sai/d ring and adapted to engage the nut-grooves.
2. A turret for lathes comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to a slide rest, a screw bolt rotatably mounted in said bracket, a tool holder carried by said bolt, a grooved nut engaging the bolt, a ring turnable on said nut, anda tightening lever pivoted to said ring and adapted to engage the nut-grooves.
3. A turret for lathes comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to a slide rest, a headed screw bolt rotatably mounted in said bracket, a tool holder non-rotatably secured to the headed end of the bolt, a radial pin carried by said bolt, a clamping nut engaging the boltand having a pin that is adapted to be engaged by the first named pin, and means for tightening said nut.
