To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL Down, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Sash-Lock, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to sash locks for sash and double hung windows designed to slide in the frame.

The object of this invention is to provide a sash lock that will lock each sash in any desired position when one or both sashes are opened, also looking the window when both sashes are closed.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification: Figure 1, is a side elevation of the lock, showing a section of the frame and sash. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the lock, and showing a fragment of the locking bars. 3 is a transverse section through the lock on line rr. Fig. 4 is a section through the lock on line ss. Fig. 5 is a section through the lock on line t-t. Fig. 6 is a section of modified form of locking rods. Fig. 7 shows a longitudinal section through a fragment of the corrugated locking bars.

Similar numerals refer to similar parts through the different views.

Referring to the accompanying drawings it will be observed that the sash lock comprises two longitudinal locking bars, 1 and 2, equal in length to the height of the upper sash, bar 1 being concave in section with a flange, 3, integral with its lower end. Flange, 3, secured by screws, 1, to the bottom rail, 5, of the top sash, the upper end of said bar being secured by screws to the top rail, 6, of the same sash. Bar 2, being circular in cross section, designed to slide against the concave surface of bar 1, an integral flange provided at its upper end and secured by screws to the head, 8, of the window frame, its lower end reaching to the bottom of flange, 3, of bar 1; an offset, 9, being provided at its upper end equal to the thickness of the parting bead, 10, of the frame. A plate, 11, is secured by screws, 4, to the top rail, 12, of the lower sash, said plate comprising integral a bed 13, and a bracket 15, containing a binding post 1.4:, said plate carrying a locking hook, 16, pivotally connected between bed, 13, and bracket, 15, by a pin, 17, through a slot, 18, in said hook,

permitting the hook to swing in a circular motion, clear of the locking bars and top sash, allowing the two sash to pass each other in the frame. Said hook carrying a thumb screw, 19, and having a lateral motion through the slot, 18, enabling the hook to clamp the locking bars, 1 and 2, together by the thumb screw being set up against the binding post, 14, thus locking the bars together between the hook and the binding post. The locking bars, 1 and 2, the surface of which may be smooth or corrugated, as shown in Fig. 7 bar 1 is aflixed to the upper sash and made to slide longitudinally with said sash and against bar 2, which is stationarily aflixed to the head of the window frame, the lower end of bar 2 passing between the concave side of bar 1, and the binding post, 1 1, of the locking mechanism aflixed to the top rail of the lower sash. The bar 1 moves longitudinally with the upper sash and the locking mechanism moves longitudinally with the lower sash, thus enabling both sash to be locked Iion any required position to the stationary Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A sash lock of the character described comprising two locking bars, one stationarily affixed to the head of the window frame, the other affixed to the upper sash and made to slide longitudinally with said sash and against the stationary bar; a locking mechanism aflixed to the bottom sash comprising integrally a bed plate, and a bracket containing a binding post, a locking hook pivotally connected between the bed plate and bracket, a slot in said hook, a pin through said slot, the hook engaging the locking bars and having a circular motion to swing clear of said bars, said hook having a lateral motion through the slot and carrying a thumb screw actuated against the binding post.
