Be it known that I, WINCHEST R BEN: nnr'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in thecounty of New Haven andkState of Connecticut, have invented a 1 new anduseful Improvement in Ma azinein magazine firearms, and particularly to magazine firearms in which a tubular maga-' zine is arranged below the barrel.
The object of the invention is the same as that set forth in application filed by moon the 6th day of April, 1912, Serial No. 688,965, namely, to convert a many-shot gun into a two-shot gun. In that application a transformer was employed independent of the cartridge follower but located in the magazine tube so as to limit the movement of the cartridge follower beyond the point which would permit of more than one cartridge shell to be inserted into the magazine tube. The transformer shown in my previous application consisted of a rod located within themagazine spring hearing at its forward end against the magazine cap, and of such a length as to arrest the forward movement of the cartridge follower beyond the point-which will permit more than one cartridge shell to be inserted into the magazine tube abut in that construction there were no means provided for holding the rod or transformer in its forward position.
The particular object of this invention is to provide means for holding the transformer at the forward end of the magazine tube; and the-invention consists in providing the transformer with a head which will bear against the magazine cap andprovide a shoulder against which the maga zine spring will rest; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited ini the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I provide the transformer rod 2 with an enlarged head 3 adapted to fit within the magazine tube 4 and having a bearing against the magazine cap 5 which is employed to' close the outer end of the magazinetube after the follower spring and transformer have been inserted. I claim In a firearm, the combination with the tubular magazine and the magazine cap thereof, of a spring-actuated cartridge-fol lower longitudinally movable therein, and a removable transformer located within the magazine tube and comprising a rod extending within the magazine spring, said rod provided with a head at its outer end against which the said spring bears and by hjch the forward end of the transformer 1 against the said cap and so as to lim forward inovefiaent ofthe follower.
