mandrel andsimultaneously the roller '45 .i
makes contact'with the revolving receptacle whereby the latter is thrown olf. A coiled spring 59- connectin the lever 41 with the bearing 3 holds'the ever and the connected parts described normally shown in Fig. 2.
In operation, with the disks- 18 and- 21 and the headers- 33 and`36 out of engagein the position ment, the'b'ottom 58 of a receptacle 58 is veniently by lind or by means of theiholder 12. lThe leverf`37 is 'then operated to bring into contact with the bottom ofthe receptacle the gumming disk' 18 'and the cone roller .20 which simultaneously place the.
tracted end of the body has the bottom tightly telescoped therein, whereupon the lever 37 is further` operated to press the beadingv tools 33 and 36 againstthe recep-` tacle to engage the bodyand bottom thereof together by beading the same and to form a bead on the top of the receptacle as.4 described. The headers having performed their functions 'and being withdrawn, thg lever 41 is depressed and, vacting through the intermediate mechanism described, forces the disk 23 against the top of thereceptacle to loosen it from Athe mandrel'and simultaneously the roller 45 engages to throw ofl the receptacle.
Having described'my invention, I claim:
1. In a 'machine for making receptacles, the combination of a 'revoluble mandrel adapted for receiving parts of a tubular receptacle, means for -placing one of said parts onl said mandrel in engagement with the other of said parts, and adevice adapted to be moved transversely tothe axis of said mandrel into and out of position for coactl ing with said mandrel and forming a bead in said parts. y
2; In a machine for 'making receptacles, the combination ofa revoluble mandrel adapted for receiving parts of a tubular receptacle thereon, a device adapted for placing one or more-off said parts on said mandrel, a reciprocating device for gumming parts held on vsaid mandrel, and a reciprocating'device for beading parts held on said mandrel, said reciprocating devices 'acting alternately upon said parts affected thereby.
and 23 lon therevolving i -3. In machineformaking receptacles, a
slide, a gumming disk-'journaldffon s aid `slide and adapted for gumming ian article Vwith and adapted for revolving said gumed on said shaft and. engaging said friction :disk first named.
.rev'olublev shaf t,a' mandrel-on said shaft, a
adapted for gumming an article on said mandrel, and la device connected4 to and adapted for revolving said gumming device, said third named device being movable by said slide into engagementwithA said first named deviceA and revolved-thereby. 1
5. In a machine for making receptacles, a revoluble shaft, amandrel 'on .said'jshaft, a pair of deviceshaving-conical faces, said devices being movable longitudinally; on and revolved bysaid shaft," resilient :means for holding said devices against movement from their normal positions4v on said shaftfa slide, a gumming disk journaled on said slide and movable thereby 'into'.and out of'engagement with anarticle on'saidfmandrel, and'A a frictional-device connected to andadapted.
for revolving said gu'mmngdisk, said fric'- tiona-l device. being .movable by said slide into and out of engagement with said conical faces.
6. In a machine for making receptacles, a revoluble shaft, a' mandrel vfixed to said shaft, a fulcrmcd lever, a device movable.
on said shaft forengaging the end vo-a movable thereby i'nto andout of 'engagement with the bottom of said receptacle on said mandreLf In witness whereof I have hereunto .set my name this 11th day of March, A. D. 1909, in the presence ofthe subscribing wit- IIQSSGS. 'L
