Description
,Tqeach side of each'v of the trucks W are attached two-wheels, which are placed the one above and the other below the continuons ways Y attached to or forming a paltof the frames L, as shown in iig. 2.
l The beams of the plows X are pivoted to the trucks W, and have small springs, Z,y connected with them,
to allow them to give should the plows strike an ob- To the ends of the inner shaft O' are attached wheels 1)', around which passes the rope, chain, or band E', which also passes around a wheel, F', attached to the driving-shaft G', which revolves in bear. ings attached to the platform F. Power is designed to be 'applied to the shaft G inthe ordinary manner, by a steam-engine placed upon Athe platform F, and which is not shown in the drawing.
To the middle part of the driving-shaft G' is attached a bevel gear-wheel, H', the teeth of which mesh into the teeth of a bevel gear-wheel, I', attached t0 the upper end of the vertical. shaft J' that passes .lown through the platforms F and E, and pivots the and platforms to each other, ashereinbefore described. Upon the lower part of the shaft J' is` formed a 'screw-thread, K', into 4which mesh the teeth of the screw-wheel L', attached to one end ofthe short shaft M', which revolves in bearings in the lower end of a standard or other support, and to the other end of vhich shaft is attached a gear-wheel, N', the teeth of which mesh into the teeth of the gear-wheel C at- :ached to the sleeve R'.
The sleeve R' slides upon the shaft Q', with which t is connected` by a tongue and groove, or other convenient means, so as to carry the said shaft Q' with it nits revolution, and,at the same time, may be free :o slide longitudinally upon the said shaft Q'. To the 'orward end of the sleeve R is attached a small bevel gear-wheel R', which, when the sleeve 1t' is slidforvard, meshes into the teeth ot' the gear-wheel S' attached to the lower end of the vertical shaft J. '.lhis arrangement of the gearing enables the machine to be fed or moved vforward with a faster or slower movement, as may be desired. The shaft Q' revolves in bearings attached to the'frame E, and to its rear end is yattached a bevel gear-wheel, T', the teeth of `which mesh into the teeth of thegear-wheel U', which revolves upon the lower end of the bolt-spindle or shaft by which the truek-frameD is pivoted to'the frame E,
jso that the gear-wheels '1" U may mesh into each other, whatever position the truck may have with refthei'ame 'of the'plow-truck W, and passing through a whole o'r half nutconnect-ed with the plovw,'so that, bytnrning the said screw, the plow may be conveniently adjusted at the required angle.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pateut-A 1. The combination of ,frames D and E,tpivoted together as set -forth, with the platform F, vertical shaft, hollow standard G, studs H J, and frictionwheels I, as described.
2. The subject-matter of third clause, in combination with the eye-pieces K and frames L, whos'e outerv ends rest upon the ground, in the manner described.
3. The combination' of the swiveledl screwA." with the vplow-truck \V, and plow X,"substantially as herein shown and described and for the purpose'set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed byV me this 15th day of December, 1869.
