To all whom it may concern.' Be it known that I Emi. H. Tarn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los An eles and State of California, ave invente certain new and useful Improvements in Incandescent Electric Lamps and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same. c
This invention relates to improvements in incandescent electric lamps.
One object of the invention is to provide a lamp of this character having arran ed therein means whereby the lam is coo ed and the bulb thus prevented rom being broken b the intense heat generated from hi h can le power lights.

With these and o er objects in view, the invention consists lof certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arran ement of parts as will be more fully descri ed and claimed.

the bulb is a hollow metal base or shell 7 which is preferably threaded as shown and otherwise corres onds to the usual hase of nn incandescent amp. The base or shell T has arranged in its outer end a disk 8 of insulating material to the outer side of which is secured a terminal or contact plate l). On the inner edge of the base or shell 7 is formed a skirt 10 which extends over the outer edge of the cap and the adjacent portion of the bulb as shown. The skirt is cemented or otherwise ri idly secured to the outer edge of the cap. hrough the cement and between the surface of the cap and adjacent portion of the skirt are formed two or more air assages 8 the upper and inner ends of whic communicate with the space in the hollow shell or base 7 and the einer ends of which communicate with slots 11 formed in the skirt or extension 10 of the base or shell. The assages 6 in the cap 2 also communicate with the space in the shell or base 7 as shown.
Within the bulb 1 is a combined filament supporting and heat discharging mechanism A.comprising a pendant narrow cone 12 formed of tin, glass or other suitable insulating or non-conducting material, said cone projecting into the bulb to the roper dis- ,tance an having formed on its arger open end an annular radially projecting attaching flange 18 which fits and is adapted to bc secured within the annular recess 5 in the inner side of the cap 2 b fusing or in any other suitable manner. Wiien the conc is thns lsecured to the cap the projection 4 on the inner side of the cap extends into and closely tits the open end of the conc as shown. Preferably, though not'necessarily arranged in the cone 12 is a cone shaped metallic ining 14 which extends to within a short. distance of the open end of the conc 12 as shown. The lining 14 has a bright reflecting surface and may be constructed of tin foi or thin sheet metal or may be sim ily in the form 0f a metallic coating appliedl to the inner side of the cone.

The current conducting-wires 16 and 1i pass ont of the lam through the assages 6 in the cap Arranged on the upper portion of the cone 12 is an upper filament supporting disk 18 formed of g ass or other non-conducting material, said disk having formed therein a centrall disposed i passage to receive the cone. round the passage in the disk 18 is formed 1 an annular -laterally projecting flange 19 which closely fits the side of the cone 12 and forms an increased bearingsurface for the disk. In the outer portion of the disk are molded angularly bent substantiall V-shaped filament supporting wires 20 t e ends of which project beyond the outer edge of the disk and form han ers to which the ends of the filaments are so dered or otherwise firmly secured. One of the ends of the wires 20 is longer and projects a greater distance from the edge of the disk than its companion end so t at when the filaments are secured to said ends one strand of the filaments will be disposed nearer to the cone near its smaller end and spaced a suitable distance from the disk 18 is a second filament holding disk 21 which is constructed in a similar manner but is somewhat smaller than the disk 18. Embedded in the disk 21 is a series of radially projectin filament engagin wires 22 in the outer en s of which are ormed bends or hooks which en age the loops of the filaments and hold the atter in pro er position relative to the outer surfaces o the cone. The inner ends of the conducting wires 16 and 17 are connected to the ends of the wires 20 or adjacent ends of the filaments as shown. By providing a cone shaped filament su port constructed and arranged as herein s own and described to ther with the perforated hollow base or s ell 7 and the perforated cap 2 the heat from the incandescent filaments will be absorbed by the glass cone and its metal lining and the heat thus'absorbed will form a vortex in the cones and will thus be rapidly drawn out throu h the rforations 0 in the cap 2 and disc arged hrough the passages 8 and slots 11 in the skirt of the shell or base 7. By arranging one strand of each of the filaments closer to the surface of the cone than the other, the heat from these strands or fllaments'will be absorbed by the cone before itican reach the bulb, thus relieving the latter of .this much.

In an incandescent electric lamp, a bulb7 a hollow cone shaped filament supporting and heat absorbing cone arranged in said` bulb, upper and lower non-conductin(r tilaiiieiit supporting disks arranged on said cone, filament su port-ing wires arranged in said upper dis t, said wires having angularly projecting ends, one of which is of greater length than the other whereby some of the lilaiiieiit strands are closer to said rone than the others, filament engaging wires arranged in said lowex` filament supporting disk, said wires having their outer ends bent to forni notches adapted to engage the looped ends of the filament, a perforated cap arranged on the inner end of the bulb and adapted to support said cone, a hollow base or shell secured to said ca i and to the adjacent end of the bulb, said base or `shell having formed therein heat discharging openings whereby the heat froiii ihe cone is discharged from the lamp.
