THOMAS H. IRV'INL, OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, ASSIG'NOR 0F ONE-HALF TO JAMES HAYS QUARLES, OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS.
IliOCKINGry DEVICE FOR FORMS.
specimen@ of Letters Patent. i Application sied AprilY 1s, 191e. serial No. 690,648.
Patented lAug. 27, 1912.
`and the State of Texas, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Locking Devices for Forms, of which the lfollowing is a specification.
An object of my invention is to provide a new locking device of such a form that when locked about circular or oval type forms, it will not jam the sides of said -form, thus overcoming the numerous objections to the old vt'orm of'locking means when used in connection with circular forms. Among these objections are the jamming of thel sides Aof the form-which causes destruction thereof. Evidently lalso the use of the vold type results in inconvenience to the stone man and consequent loss of time to the entire printing plant.
Other obJects and advantages will appear as the description proceeds. Broadly my invention comprises two corresponding die-parts held in operative relation to the form by dowel pins, the pinreceiving aperture provided in the die being circular, oval or polygonal in shape.
Proceeding now tov a detailed description reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which Figure I. is a plan view ot' one of the sections, the co-acting section being indicated in dotted lines; Fig. II.,is a plan view of the other section; Fig. III. is an edge view of one sectionyFig. IV. is a view of two assembled sections of a modified form; Fig. V. is a plan view of a die and its inclosed form; Fig. VI. is a'plan view of one of the leads I may use.
Like characters refer to the same parts throughout the several yiews.
. C1 and C2, and D1, D2.
The die consists of two parts A end B adapted to be held together by dowel pins C and D inserted in suitable alining bores These bores being provided. in the sections with their longitudinal axes at an angle to the like axis of the form aperture referred to hereinafter. The sections are formed each with a semi-cylindrical 'recess 1 and 1b respec# tively, so that when the c lindrical bore is provi ed, this bore 1s for tlie reception ofthe forms.
are assembled a;
On assembling, the form isl placed upon a suitable support and the sections fitted i about itl and fastened by the dowel pins- In case the diameter of the forni is less than` that of the bore l, lb, I use in pairs, suit- `able leads or slugs Gr, G1, each lead being a half annulus and of the same thickness as its mate (see Fig. VI), and of such thiclc ness as is necessitated by the circumstances.
one'pair of slugs there-between, but it is obvious that as many-pair of slugs may be used as advisable. l i
My invention also contemplates the use of dies providing an oval form-receivingopening and this form is show-n in Fig.- IV Where two die parts A1, B1 held by dowel pins J and K and furnishing the oval form opening L are shown,'otherwise the arrangement is'like that just described. Each diepartopening is of course a half oval of the same dimensions as its mate.
lOn Fig.. V, is shown a die and form with It will loeA seen that my invention con I templates dies with `form-receiving openings of various polygonal shapes 'as thecir- Vcular opening shown is of course but a polygon of an infinite number of sides.
Having 'now fully described my invention and set forth some of its advantages, I proceed to claim it, it being understood that I consider all equivalent constructions falling within the scope of the appended claims as my invention l 1. A form locking device comprising in' `combination two corresponding sections,
each formed intermediate its ends with a semi-cylindrical recess and a plurality of dowel pin receiving bores, extending there through, the longitudinal axes of the bores being at angles to that of the recess; the spacin of the various recesses being such that W en the Vsect-ions are assembled acylindrical form receiving aperture is toiiiied and corresponding dowelv-pin bores are'in alinement, and dovel pins fossa'id bores wherebyV the sections may be brought into intimate contact to encompass the form.
2. A form locking device, comprising in combination vtwo corresponding sect1ons,.
each 'formed intermediate its ends with a semi-cylindrical recess and a plurality of .dowel pin receiving bores extending there-- through, the longitudinal axis of the bores roo being at right angles lto that of the recess;
the spacing of the various recesses being such that when the sections are assembled a cylindrical 'orrn-receivinfbfv aperture is kformed and corresponding bores are in al1ne ment7 dowel pins for said bores whereby the sections may be brought into intimate contact to encompass the form, and a plurality of semi-annular leads interposed between the form and said sections, A
3. A form locking device comprising in combination two corresponding sections, each formed intermediate its ends with a semi-polygonal recess and a plurality of dowel pin receiving bores extending therethrough, the longitudinal axis of the bores being at right angles to that of the recess; the spacing of; the various recessesbeing such that when thev sections are 'assembled a polygonal form-receiving aperture is formed and corresponding bores are in alinement, and dowel pins for said bores whereby the sections may be brought into intimate 20 Contact to encompass the form.
