To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatv I, JOHN ALFRED Cour.- TRUP, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 214 East Pikes Peak avenue, 1n the city of Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Adjusting-Table for Chiropractors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to operating tables for use in spinal adjustments of the human body as practised by chiropractors and consists of the novel combination of the parts hereinafter described.
The main object of my invention is to provide a table of the class above mentioned which may be adjusted to the various positions desirable for the treatment of the spine by the chiropractic method.
Other objects will appear as the description of the invention progresses.
In the drawings forming a part of this application Figure 1 is a top plan view; of the table; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the center; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation showing the tilting platform tilted to different angles; Fig. atv is a sectional view on the line A-B in Fig.3 drawn to an enlarged scale.

The invention comprises a main frame 1 supported by posts 2, four of said posts be ing surmountedby a rigid platform 3; a slidable frame 5 adapted to slide on a cleat 6 secured to the inner side of each of the side boards of said main frame; a tiltable platform 7 mounted upon the said slidable frame adapted to be tilted to an angle and clamped in position bymeans of the clamp 8; an elevatable chest support 9 mounted in said tiltable platform, supporting rods hingedly connected thereto operatable by cords 11 connected to their lower ends and passing over pulle s 12 to winding drums 13 which are provided with ratchet wheels 14 and pawls therefor.
There are two winding drums so one side of the patients chest may be elevated higher than the other. This is accomplished by winding one drum more than the other thereby obtaining the position shown in Fig. 4in dotted lines. These drums are operated independently by detachable cranks 15.
An elastic abdominal support extends from the rigid platform 3 to a winding drum 18 mounted in a clevis 19 slidably attached to the end posts of the table and held in position by the thumb screw 20. This support comprises a plurality of wires 16 and springs 17 A rigid abdominal support 22 is hinged to the platform 3 and when in use occupies the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2.
A step 21 is provided to assist patients in mounting the table.
The patient lies with his back upward thus presenting his spine to the operator, his limbs restingon the platform 3, his chest on the chest support 9, his head on the platform 7 the rest of his body extending across the space between the platforms 3 and 7.
In the treatment of disease by this method it is desirable to have the space between the two platforms correspondto the length of the spine of the patient as nearly as is possible. For this reason the platform 7 must be used to adjust this space. It is also an advantage to have this platform tilted to an angle which increases the comfort of the patient and this angle varies with different patients therefore this platform is made tiltable.
When the cervical vertebrae are to be examined and treated it is advantageous to raise the chest of the patient above the platform 7 and sometimes at an angle transversely with said plat-form; therefore the elevatable chest support 9 is provided. It will be seen that the vertical rods of this support will always move vertically by reason of the holes in the platform 7 and the guide rings 24.
It has been found beneficial to have an elastic sup ort for the abdominal portion of the patients body. This support must be adjustable with reference to tension to suit different patients. It must be adjustable vertically at one end to allow the tilting of the platform 7. This support is shown adjusted in two positions in Fig. 2.
A rigid abdominal support is provided for patients that need that kind of support.
I claim- 1. In a table for chiropractors in combination, a main frame supported by posts; a rigid section mounted thereon; a slidable section having a tiltable'member mounted thereon, said section being slidably mounted upon said main frame, an elevatable member mounted in said tiltable member, and an elastic abdominal support.
2. In a table of the class described, a main frame supported by posts, a platform mounted upon the top of four of said posts, a tiltable platform mounted upon a slidable frame disposed within said main frame and adapted to slide on cleats secured to the inner sides 'of said main frame and a clamping means for said tiltable platform and slidable frame.
3. In a table for use in spinal adjustments, a main frame supported by posts, a slidable frame disposed within said main frame, a rocking member adapted to be tilted to an angle mounted upon said slidable frame, a clamp adapted to clamp said rocking member and said slidable frame to said main frame, an elevatable member mounted in said rocking member, and means for. elevating each side of said member independently, an elastic abdominal support extending from said first named platform underneath said rocking member to the end posts of said main frame, and an adjusting means for said support.

In a table of the class described in combination, a main frame supported by posts four of said posts being surmounted by a rigid platform, a slidable frame adapted to slide on cleats secured to the inner sides of said main frame, a tiltable platform mounted upon said slidable frame adapted to be tilted lengthwise, a clamp secured to said slidable frame adapted to clamp said frame and said tiltable platform in a fixed positIOIl, an elevatable chest support mounted in said tiltable platform having two vertically disposed rods hingedly connected thereto operatable by two cords each of said cords being attached to different windin drums mounted in said tiltable platform and being provided with independent ratchet Wheels and pawls. 5. A table comprising a horizontally disposed main frame supported by legs, a horizontally disposed platform mounted upon the top of four of said legs, a slidable member comprising a rectangular frame disposed Within said main frame upon cleats running lengthwise of the main frame on the inside thereof and having a concave recess in the top of each of its sides, a tiltable member comprising a, -pair of rockers surmounted by a'platform, said rockers having the same curve as the concave recess in said slidable member and being rotatably mounted in said concave recess, a clamp secured to the inside of said slidahle member and extending to the out side of said main frame, a supplementary platform adapted to be tilted transversely'of said tiltable member disposed upon said member having two ver- 1 tically disposed rods hinge'dly connected to said platform and passing through guide holes in said member and through guide rings secured to said member and having cords attached to their lower ends, each cord passing over pulleys to independently operatable winding drums mounted in said tiltable member and being provided with ratchet wheels and pawls therefor, said drums being operatable by different cranks; an elastic abdominal support comprising a plurality of wires and springs disposed longitudinally of said table having one end attached to said rigid platform and extending underneath said tiltable member to a winding drum mounted in a vertically slidable clevis mounted on the end legs of the mam frame, said drum being provided with a ratchet wheel and pawl and operatable by a crank, a rigid abdominal support hinged to said rigid platform and held in place by a brace hinged to its lower side, substantially as described and for the purposes specified.
