A shaft T0 carries a worm T which is driven by a belt, not shown, from the pulley 74. The worm gear 77 is ei'maged with the hob T1 mounted on the shafte3, and imoarting therchy slow rotating movementto the same.- The shaft T3 is prov led at. each end with a transverse meniloer 4 said member being connected with the slides 75 and 75 respectively for closing or opening the .inlet and outlet apertures respectively of the casing 14 of the grinding millu These transverse members are placed on the shaft 73 so that the slide 75 is in closing,r position when slide 75 is open and vice versa. The obiect of this arrangement is to prevent the sand thrown through the feeding aperture i4. from leaving the Igrindingr mill heitere it has undergone the grinding operation.

From the foregoing;i it will be seen that the raw materials singly conveyed to machine are discharged therefrom finely crushed and thoronghl 1 mixed Ywith eac-h other. lt is also obvious that in the compendious structure of the machine not more than one attendant is required to watch the various devicesand operate the same. lt is u'thermore obvious that the entire drive for the machine is derived from l ne main shaft I which is readily a ice' :ible 'tor oiling and which in the embodiment shown may easily be inspected from the ground loor or the machine. YIt is furthermore obvious that. in this structure the necessity of huilding a plurality of undaments for several machines is dispensed with and a considerable saving is connected with this feature,

l. claim 1. A machine for preparing molding sand comprising` in combination, a. device for reducing new sand from coarse to fine condition, a device for sifting the tine new sand, a. device for crushing and sifting old sand, separate conveying met-lis tor sand from the aforesaid devices respecti ey, a common conveying means for said sands, a device 'for intel-mixing both. kinds of sand, said common conveying means leading said sands to said mixing device, common actuating means for said devices and conveying means, and means for adding coal-dust to .the sands.

A machine for preparing molding` sand, comprising,` in comhii'iation, a grinding mill for new sand, a sifting device for ground new sand, a means 'for conve-ying ground new upwardly to the sitting device, a crushing and sifting mill for old molding sand, means for conveying old molding sand upwardly from said crushing` mill, a third conveying means for looth kinds ot sand in common and forintermixing said sanos, a second device for intcrmixing said sands, said common conveying means leading to said intermixing device, means for adding coal-dust. to the mixture, and common actuating means for said devices and conveying means.

4. li machine for preparing moldingsand, comprising in combination, a grinding mall. for new sand, a sifting device 'for `ground new sand disposed above said mill, means tor conveying,- `sand from said mill lo said sifting device, a. crushing and sitting mill for old molding sand disposed below said sifting de Je, means for conveying sand from said crushing mill upwardly, a third conveyer, means for leading sand from said second conveying means to said third conveyor, means -for leadingf sand from said sifting; device to said 'third conveyer, an intermixing device for both kinds of sand disposed on a len-el below said sifting device, d third conve-yer leading both kinds ot" rd said ruining device, a device for adding coal-dust to the sands, andlactuating means for said devices and conveying means.

A machine for preparing molding sand, comprising in combination, a grinding mill for new sand, a device for sifting ground new sand disposed above said mill, means for conveying sand from said mill to said sitting device., means for leadingl unsifted sand from the sitting device hack to the mill, a crushing and sifting mill for old molding sand disposed. below said sifting; device, means Yfor conveying sand from said Crushing mill upwardly, a third conveyer, means for leading; sand from said second conveying means to said third conveyer, means for leading siftcd sand from said sifting device to said third conveyor, a device for inter-mixing both kinds of sand disposed on a'lcvel below said sifting device, said third.. .rnvcycr leading both kinds of sand toward said mixing device, a. device tor adding coaldust to the sands, and :mtuatinggr means for said devices and conveying means.

A machine for preparing molding sund, comprising in combination n grinding mill for new sand, a sifting device for ground new sand disposed above sii-id mill, u ineens for conveying ground new sund from said mill to said sifting device, a crushing and sifting mill for old molding send disposed in close juxtaposition to said grinding mill, a means for conveying sand from said crushing mill upwardly, both of said conveyinr means being disposed opposile cach ot er, a primary mixing and conveying de vice disposed at a level shove seid mills, means for lending crushed old send from said second conveying means to said pri mary mixing and conveying device, means for leading sifted new sand `from said sift4 ing device to said primary mixing and conveying device, a, secondary mixing device, said primary mixing device lending the sands toward said secondary mixing device, means for adding coal-dust lo the mixture,
