J l l To all 'ze/mm. it mai concern lie it known trat I, WILLIAM H. Hanonxvn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, county of Multnomah, and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvements in Cable-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
'lhis invention has for its object to provide a simply constructed and efhcient clamp for a cable, also to so construct the exterior of the clump as to facilitate its passage through a pulley-block.
My invention also has for its purpose t-o provide efficient and convenient means for securely clamping the ends of a cable used for tying togetherl the ends of the logs in the boom sticks of a ra ft; and in connection with these purpos the further objects of my device is to so construct my clamp that all of the parts thereof may be conveniently cast, that it consists of only a few pieces, and that the parts thereof may be interchanged.
These and incidental features are fully explained in the body of the specification.

Each part of the box is further formed with a central transverse flange d, provided with perforations, e, for receiving bolts. When the two parts of the sleeve have been assembled on the cable, and the babbitt filling has also been introduced, there is slipped over the ends of the box-portions sleeves f, g. each formed with companion flanges /L and provided with perforations 7', registering with the pcrforations, e, of the flanges d of the box parts, and the sleeves, f, g, are bolted to the flange d of the box parts by bolts and nuts j.
The type of clamp shown by me in Fig. 1 is such as would be serviceable as a collar, and it is frequently convenient to have the clamp so arranged as to readily pass through a pulley-block. To accomplish this purpose, the sleeves are formed with longitudlnal radial webs 7c.
Z in Fig. 1 represents the babbitt filling cast on the cable m, and n represents a log having a hole bored at one end throngli which the cable m is inserted.
The t-ype of my clamp illustrated in Fig. is such as is serviceable for securing the ends of a cable used in tying together the ends of the logs in the boom stick of a raft. The log ends are represented by o, o', having holes bored at through which the ends g, q', q of the cab e loops r, 1" are inserted, said cable ends being fastened together by my clamp, as shown. In this instance my clamp comprises u longitudinally divided box s, preferably made in two parts, each of the form shown in Fig. 6, and formed with n. plurality of longitudinal recesses t, of larger cross section than the grooves t', for receiving the cable, so that a babbitt filling may be cast about the cable in said recess t to secure the cable against endwise movement. Each of the box parts is further formed with a central transverse flange il, having perforutions u for receiving bolts. Slipped over the ends of the assembled box parts are sleeves o, w, made with companion flanges v', w', respectively, which are bolted to the flange u of t-he box parts by means of bolts and nuts y.
It will be noted that my clamp is adapted for different sizes of cab es, by making my clamp of the size fitting the cable of greatest diameter; and by making the type of clamp illustrated 'in Fig.. 5, .the ends of cables of different diameter ma be clamped together in the manner above escribed.
In the operation of securing cable ends by myclamp, the cable ends are temporarily secured'in place by any convenient means, so as to lie within the box parts, and the sleeves are then put in place, the clamp being held meanwhile, by some convenient means, in upright position so that the babbitt may bo poured into the core of the box tho bottom openin of the core being close by holding `a .clot against the same until the babbitt has solidified. If the cable ends are later to be separated, the sleeve parts are first removed, then the box arts, after which the babbitt can be rcadi y removed mechanically or by melting ofi'.
I claim:
1. A cable clamp consisting of a longitudinally divided box the parts of which are interchangeable, each part beingJ made with a core recess for receivin a ca le, said recess being adapted to ho d a metal filling cast in it about the cable; each of said box parts being formed with a central transverse flange, sleeve ends adapted to be placed on the opposite ends of the assembled box parts; each sleeve being formed with a companion flange at its inner end; and means for securing the parts together.

A cable clamp consisting of a longitudinally divided box the parts of which are interchangeable, each part being made with a core recess for receivin a cable, said recess being adapted to ho d a metal filling cast in it about the cable; each of said box parts being formed with a central transverse flange, sleeve ends adapted to bc Elaced on the opposite ends of the assemled box parts; each sleeve being formed with a companion fixings at its inner end and with radial peripheral webs, tapering longitudinally from said flange to the e.\'t.rein1t \v of the sleeve end; and the flanges of the parts bein provided with registering perforations 01` receiving bolts, the perforations of the sleeve flanges being located intermediate said webs, tlie latter constituting a partial housing therefor.
