To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J AMES WARNER SHOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tuscaloosa, in the county of Tuscaloosa and State of Alaban'la, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods for Disintegrat-ing'Nodulizer-Kiln Rings, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention 'is to provide a process for nodulizin and desulfurizing of stock or material suc i as pyrites cinders, fine iron ore, furnace flue dust, and the like, which have a tendency to adhere to the brick lining of the kiln and form a ring near the discharge end of the kiln. These rings, unless removed, will in timeentirely close the kiln. Through the use of the apparatus, shown in the accompanying drawings, I have invented a method by which these rings may be removed.
In said drawings Figure l is a side View of a nodulizerkiln with the middle section out out and the lower or discharge 'end shown in section; Fig. 2 is a side view of a disintegrator harpoon and a supply pipe therefor, and Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the disintegrator harpoon and said supply pipe.
In said drawings A is the. shell of a rotary kiln, B B the tires of said shell and C C the rollers or treads on which the tires travel.
D is a hood for closing the lower, or discharge, end of the kiln and d d are port holes therein.
E is a brick lining and F illustrates a ring of stock, such as forms in operating the kiln.
G is the disintegrator supply ipe and H the harpoon, or chisel edge, 0 the disintegrator. J is a flexible hose connection to said supply pipe and K K are the discharge holes in the bottom face of the harpoon. To remove the ring of stock, illustrated at F F, the disintegrator is passed through one of said port holes (1 d in hood D and .the chisel edge of harpoon H is pushed under the thin edge of ring F and against brick work E. In operation ,a part of the water discharged under the ring, owing to the intense heat of the kiln at this point, appears to be dissociated, the oxygen combining with the sulfur carried by the stock and the hydrogen burning.

2. The method of disintegrating and re moving ring formations in a rotary nodulizin kiln which consists in forcing a cold liquid beneath the edge of the ring while said edge is being loosened and the kiln is in a highly heated state.
3. The method of disintegrating rings in rotary nodulizing kilns which consists of forcing loose the edge-of the ring forma-' tion and simultaneously forcing water under said ring formation while the kiln is'in a highlyheated state whereby the water is suddenly vaporized by the intense heat and any case interrupting the operation of the the ring formation is thereby loosened to a kiln. 10 degree that permits its removal.
