the invention is to provide this connection which will prove exceedingly useful and desirable in houses, oi'lioes, public buildings, and the like, when it is desired to convert the ordinary flush plug receptacle into a connection whereby the current may be conveyed to a lamp, motor, vacuum cleaner, flat-iron, percolator, or other electrical apparatus.
A further object of the vinvention isto rovide a device of the character stated -which will be capable of instantaneous application and removal with reference to any type of receptacle, and to which the usual roundscrevvr attachment plug may be readily attached'for connection with a lamp fixture or the like.
'Other objects of the invention are the provision of an adapter which will obviate the use of two or more different types of attachas it is now required; which can be made to accommodate one, two or three sockets, thus enabling one socket to be used fora connection with an incandescent lamp, another to be connected to the conducting wires of a motor, and so forth, as will be readily understood. I may in this connection however, substitute for the sockets, binding posts or other electrical connecting devices, so that instead of screwing incandescent lamps or attachment plugs into the sockets, it will be possible to connect wires to the binding posts direct, or I may use both socket and binding post, as the occasion re uires.

In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated a practical physical embodiment of the best mode I have so far devised for accomplishing the objects heretofore stated, it .being understood that such changes, alterations and modifications may be made as fall clearly within the scope of my invention without departing in any way from the spirit thereof or sacrificingany of its advantages.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the adapter,
flush plug receptacle and incandescent lamp, showing the adapter in applied position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the adapter. Fig. 3 is an end view of, the adapter as seen from the left in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an end view of the adapter as seen from the right in Fig. 2. Figs. 5 and .6 are perspective views of the adapter with two and three sockets, respectively, for use when a cluster of lights is desired, binding posts being also shown for connection with conducting Wires, as an alternative form of connection.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designa'tes the flush plug receptacle generally, having the contact points 2, secured to the inner walls thereof, and the lead wires 3 connected to a suitable source of current.
The adapter proper comprises a block of wood or other insulating material 5, of sub- .stantially circular shape and is cut away mtermediate its length to form the rectilinear-shaped portion 6. The upper or top portion'of contact member or disk 7, which has a finger or strip 8 extending downwardly alon the cut-away portion 6 of the block, ang the opposite slde of the block is provided with the block 5 is provided with a the strip 9 having the spring-pressed clip or contact 10 formed integral t terposed between said contacts 7 and 10 is the disk of insulation material 11, the purpose of which is obvious. 4
The contacts S and 9 are secured upon the upper portion of the block 5 by any suitable means such 'as screws, or the like, while mounted upon the block 5 is the ordinary threaded socket 12 for attachmentV to the corresponding socket of an ordinary incandescent lamp. The current thus travels along contact 8 and is transferred to the screw shell 12 by means of the usual soldered connection 12", which solder also serves to retain the shell 12 upon the block 5.
The adapter is further provided with an outer casing or socket 13, of ordinary construction, said casing having the usual inerewith. In-
sulationilining 14 and being provided with the opposite openings 15, the spring clips 16 and the adjusting screws 17, the purpose of which is apparent.
It will be readily seen from the above description, taken in connection with the drawings, that when the adapter is inserted into the flush plug receptacle and the contacts established, the current will follow the contact ystrips 8 and 9. When the screw plug of an ordinary lamp and socket is screwed upon the threaded socket l2, the contact member carried by the lamp will bear upon the clip 0r contact 10 and the circuit will thus be established.
In Figs. 5 and 6, respectively, sockets 1S are shown as enterin the adapter at substantially rightv ang es thereto, and the adapter is provided with the binding posts or other electrical connections 19, to which conducting wires may be fastened, and this form of adapter is particularly useful when a cluster of lights from a single' receptacle is desired, it being understood that l do not limit myself to the precise details of construction herein speciied. ltwill be also understood `that there are a great many types of flush. plug receptacles in common use, in which the adapter must be fitted,
