To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WVILLIAM L. PAUL, of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in cultivators and more particularly to an im proved disk attachment for shovel cultivator gangs.

The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a cultivator showing the appli cation of my improvements thereto, and Figs. 2, 3 and 4: are enlarged detail views.

1, 2 represent two cultivator gangs, each of which comprises a beam, a, provided at its rear end with a bracket b which projects laterally outward from the beam, and a bracket 5 which projects laterally inward from the beam in advance of the rear portion of the latter from which the bracket Z) projects outwardly. To each bracket Z), and to each beam a intermediate the brackets Z) and 5, standards 3 are clamped, and with the lower ends of these standards, shovels 4 are connected. Standards 6 are attached to the members 5 of the frames 12 by means of clamps 7 and each of these clamps comprises two jaws 89 and a clip 10 for securing the clamp to the standard and to the frame member 5,--the jaw 9 having a seat 11 for the accommodation of the member 5 of the frame. Each standard 6 is bent outwardly at its lower end and this outwardly bent portion is provided at its free end with an integral arm or journal 12 which is disposed in a slightly inclined position. A hub 13 is mounted to rotate on the journal 12 and is provided with a flange 14 to which a disk 15 is secured. A nut or washer 16 is located on the arm or journal 12 and bears against the outer end of the hub 13,said nut or washer being held in place by means of a pin 17 passing through the arm or journal 12 and resting in notches 18 in said washer. The end of the arm or journal 12 and the washer 16 are inclosed by a dust cap 19. It will thus be seen that two disks, carried by the respective frames 1-2 are disposed to cooperate with each other in forming a furrow or more properly speaking for throwing the earth laterally in opposite directions and that said disks are located between the respective gangs of shovels.

The upper ends of the standards 6 proj ect above the frames 12 and are connected by a bar or yoke 20,said bar or yoke being attached to the respective standards by means of clamps 21., each having a tubular portion 22 for the standard. The clamps 21 are secured to the bar or yoke 20 by clips 23 and to the standards 6 by means of set screws 24. The two disk attachments are thus rigidly tied together but the adjustment of one disk and shovel gang relatively to the other disk and shovel gang can be easily effected.

The cross-bar or yoke 20 may, if desired, be utilized to support foot rests 25.

In order to properly protect the inner end of each hub 13 and prevent the admission of dust, a cap 26 is provided for the reception of the inner end of each hub and each of said caps is provided with an arm 27 secured to the lower portion of the adjacent standard 6.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,

A cultivator comprising two beams, a lateral outwardly projecting bracket at the rear end of each beam, a lateral inwardly projecting bracket on each beam in advance of the outwardly projecting bracket thereof, a standard secured to each outwardly projecting bracket, a shovel carried by each standard, a standard clamped to each beam intermediate of the brackets thereon, shovels carried by said brackets, standards clamped to the inwardly projecting brackets on the specification in the presence of two subscrlblng wltnesses.

beams, disks mounted at the lower ends of the last mentioned standards, clamps mounted on the upper ends of the last-mentioned standards, and a cross bar secured to said last-mentioned clamps to connect the tWo disk standards.
