To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANnnEw J. AXsIoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomington, in the county of Monroe and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful l loor()iler, of which the following is a specification; reference being bad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to appliances for oiling floors, especially hard wood floors in buildings, the invention having reference particularly to an appliance for carrying the oil and feeding it to the floor, and adapted also-for rubbing the oil and spreading it and for polishing the floor.

The object. of the invention primarily to provide a conveniently small floor oiler of the above mentioned character that wil be adapted to be easily operated by hand, a further object being to provide areliable and relatively cheap floor oiler so constructed as to be adapted to be durable and economical in use and which may be readily repaired when the rubbing surface becomes impaired.

\Vith the above mentioned and minor ob jects in view, the invention consists in a floor oiler in which is combined a reservoir provided with an operating handle and a rubbing felt through which the oil is sup plied from the reservoir; and the invention consists further in the novel parts and in the combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter particularly described and claimed.

Similar reference characters throughout the drawings indicate like parts or features of construction herein referred to.

The improved floor oiler comprises a relatively long and narrow reservoir consisting of a bottom 1, two sides 2 and 3 which eX- tend upward and outwardly from the bottom, and two ends 4Jand 4, extending up ward from the bottom and connected to the sides, and a cover 5 connected to the sides and the ends, the cover preferably being broader than the bottom so that the lower portion of the reservoir is somewhat nars rower than the upper portion there-0t. The cover is provided with a screw ring 6 in which is a filling plug 7 which, when removed, permits the reservoir to be filled with oil. The bottom 1 is provided with a plurality of feed tubes 8 spaced suitable dis funnel'shaped. The ends of the'reservoir are provided with two ears 9 and 9" extending downwardly beyond the plane of the bottom, the ears being provided withvaperlures 10 and 10 respectively, to receive screws. The middle portion of the side 2 of the reservoirhas a socket 11 suitably secured thereto preferably by means of solder and is provided with a. brace 12, a Wooden handle 13 of suitable length being inserted and secured in the socket for operating the implement by hand. The socket extends somewhat below the plane of the bottom 1 and is provided with a pair of cars 14 and 1st whereby the socket is secured also to the body part of the implement.

A body part 15 is provided which prefer ably is composed of wood and it approximately as long and wide as the bottom 1 and is placed against the under side of the bottom. The body part has a suitable nni'nber of apertures 16 therein into which the tubes 8 extend. The under side of the body part has teed grooves 17 therein extending from the apertures to the longer side edges of the body part and also grooves 18 extending between the apertures for distributing the oil evenly under the body part. Preferably a suitable number of packing tubes ring 19 are placed over the feed tubes 8 ant torcibly pressed into the apertures 16 to pre vent the oil passing upward by capillary at traction to and over the top oi the body part,

A clamping band 20 is provided which preferably is not lia'illi'llltl illfi but has oven lapping'end portions :32 and the band extending about the body part 43 and dorvxr 7O tances apart, the tubes preferably being" ward a suitable distance beyond the plane of the bottom thereof, and it has perforations 22 therein to receive securing screws 23 which are inserted in screw holes 24 with which the body part 15 is provided. The band extends about the ears 9 and 9 and some of the screws extend through the aper tures 10 and 10, so that the reservoir is thus secured to the body part. Other screws 25 and 25 are inserted through the cars 14: and 14 and the perforations in the band and also into screw holes in the body part, the end portions 21 and 21 being inserted between the body part and the projecting portion of the socket 11, and thus the socket is secured to the body part as WCll as to the reservoir.

A suitable swab is provided which preferably comprises a suitable number of flat pieces of felt or similar material 26 which are somewhat shorter than the body part and are placed together side by side with edges against the under side of the body part, a longer strip of the felt or like ma 'terial being placed about the other pieces seas to constitute a casing 27 to securely hold the middle or inner pieces of felt togather compactly, the upper portion of the swab being embraced by the clamping band i 20 and thereby securely held in position, the

main portion of the swab being further secured together by means of wire stitching 28 extending transversely through the sevm1 parts of the swab,

-When the rubbing end of the swab is com away nearly to the stitching 28 the latter may be removed and the swab used ontil its eiliciency becomes impaired and may readily be removed and replaced byo new one since the retaining band 20 may be readily disconnected from the body part and again secured thereto with a new swab placed therein, as before.

I In practical use, the reservoir being supplied with suitable oil, the implement is pushed along the floor to and fro by means oi'the handle 13 and the movement causes slight relative movement as between the several parts of the swab so as to permit the oil to saturate the felt parts and ooze down to the bottom thereof and on to the floor,

repeated rubbing movements effectually spreading the oil and distributing it evenly onto the floor without permitting surplusage of oil to remain upon the floor.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, isa;

A floor oiler comprising a body part having apertures therein, the under side of the body part having grooves therein extending from the apertures, a reservoir upon the body part and having feed tubes extending from the bottom thereof into the apertures, the reservoir having ears on opposite end portions thereof extending' against the ends of the body part and secured thereto, tubu" lar packings extending about the feed tubes in the apertures, a 'wab arranged against the under side of the bod part op osite the grooves and the ends 0 the feed tubes, a band extending about theswab and the body partin contact with'said ears and secured reinovably to the body part, a socket attached to the reservoir and also secured detachablyto the band and the body part, and a handle in the tocket.
