Description

UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE.
ANTONIO MOLINARES, OF BAR-RANQUILLA. COLOMBIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JACOB SENIOR. OF BARRANQUILLA, COLOMBIA.
AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Application filed May 31, 1912.
T 0 all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Ax'roxio MoLIxAnEs. a citizen of the Republic of Colombia. residing at Barranquilla. Atlantic Department. Republic of Colombia. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear. and exact description of the invention. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. reference being had to the accompanying drawings. and to characters of reference marked thereon. which form a part of this specification.
The present invention has reference. generally, to improvements in amusement apparatus: and the invention relates. more particularly. to anovel construction and ar rangement of apparatus for providing an agreeable and amusing ride or motion. the same imitating the motion or movement of a galloping horse. The said apparatus is adapted for installation in recreation parks and similar places of recreation and amusement.
The present invention has for its principal object to provide a novel. safe and easilyoperated amusement apparatus of the character above indicated.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention.
'ith the objects of this invention in view. the same consists. primarily. inthe novel amusement apparatus hereinafter more fully described; and. furthermore. this invention consists in the novel arrangements and com binations of the various mechanisms and their parts, as well as in the details of the construction thereof. all of which will be hereinafter more fully described in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims which are appended to and which form an essential part. of this specification.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the novel amusementapparatus made according to and embodying the principles of the present invention; l ig. 2 is a detail transverse section of a car forming a part of said novel amuse- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
Serial No. 700,649.
ment apparatus. said view being drawn on an enlarged scale. anddhe section being taken on line 22 in Fig.1. looking in the direction of the arrow .1: and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the mechanical movement connected with said car whereby the galloping motion of the figurs supported upon said car is produced.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of-the hereinabove described views. to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the said drawings. the reference character Lindicates the rails of a suitable track upon which the amusement apparatus is propelled. The said track may be laid out in any desirable manner. with any desired arrangement of turns or curves and straight away portions, and. if desired. with up and down grades.
The referencecharacter 2 indicates a car. which may be provided with a run-board or step 3 for mounting to the platform l of the said car. The car is equipped with, suitable bearings 5 in which are journaled the axles 6 of the car-wheels 7 which engage the rails 1 of the track. )Iounted upon the platform 4 of the said car are a pair of standards or pedestals 8, in which is journaled a transversely extending rock-shaft 9. Connected with and extending upwardly from said rock-shaft are one or more supporting posts 10. to which are rigidly connected. so as to be firmly and strongly supported thereon. the figures of horses 11. or other desirable animal forms. or any other form of passenger carrier, upon which the passengers may mount and seat themselves. Connected rig idly with and extending rearwardly from said rock-shaft 9 is a lever-arm 12 provided with a forked end 13, whereby a suitable connecting-rod H may be pivotally connected or articulated therewith. Connected with one of the axles 6 of said car-wheels T is a crank-member or eccentric 15 to which the opposite end of said connecting-rod 14; is operatively secured.
Each car 2 is provided with suitable coupling mechanism 16, whereby a plurality of said cars may be coupled together in the form of a train, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The reference-character 17 indicates a suitable tractor-motor to which said train of cars. constructed as above described, may be coupled. and by means of which the same may be drawn about the track. Said tractor motor may be propelled by any source of power or type of prime mover found desirable. For example, .the same may be driven by electricmotors, internal combustion en gines, or steam-engine, or other suitable motor mechanism. The same may also be operatedby cable if it is so desired. When the said cars 2 are thus propelled they of course carry with them the horses 11, thereby giving their riders or passengers the sense of forward movement or progress, and at the same time, as the car-wheels turn the axle 6, the crank-member 15 acting upon said connecting-rod 14 and lever-arm 12 oscillate the same, thereby producing a rockingmovement of said rock-shaft 9, which is in turn transmitted to the horses 11 carried or supported in connection therewith, and thereby giving to the latter an oscillatory rocking movement imitative of the galloping of a horse. It will thus be seen that the ride thus fforded will be pleasant, safe and amusing, and since the track may be so laid out so as to give a variety to the progressive or forward movement, both in direction and grade, all the natural sensation of real horse-back travel without its dangers are produced.
I am awarethat changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, as described in the accompanying specification,
without departing from'the scope of my present invention as defined in the claims which are appended to the said specification. Hence, I do not limit my invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the devices and parts as set forth in the foregoing specification, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts as illustrated in'the accompanying drawings.
I claim 1. An amusement apparatus, comprising a track-way, a plurality of cars running on said track-way, each car being provlded with a passenger-carrier, means connected with each car for giving said passengercarrier an oscillatory rocking movement simultaneously with the progressive movement of said car, comprising a rock-shaft,
pedestals for supporting said rock-shaft above said car platform, a supporting post connected with said rock-shaft upon which said passenger carrier is supported, a leverarm connected with said rockshaft, acrank member connected with one of the car wheel axles of said car, and a connectingrod connecting said crank-member with said lever-arm, and means for propelling said cars about upon said track-way.
2. An amusement apparatus, comprising a track-way, a plurality of cars running on said track-way, each car being provided with a pivotally mounted passenger-carrier,
a crank-member formed in one of the carwheel axles of said car, anarticulated lever system connected between said crank-member and said pivotally mounted passengercarrier for oscillating or rocking the latter during the progressive movement of said car, and a tractor-motor for propelling said cars about said track-way, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. In an amusement apparatus, a car equipped'with car-axles and Wheels, a passenger carrier pivotally supported upon said car, a crank-member formed in one of said car-axles, and an articulated lever system connected between said crank-member and said pivotally supported passenger carrier for oscillating or rocking the latter when said car is propelled.
4. In an amusement apparatus, a car equipped with car-axles and wheels, a pair of pedestal bearings, mounted on said car platform, a transversely extending rockshaft journaled in said pedestal bearings, a supporting post connected with said rockshaft, a passenger carrier rigidly secured upon said supporting post, a lever-arm rigidly connected with said rock-shaft, a crankmemher connected with one of said caraxles, and a connecting rod connecting said crank-member with the free end of said lever-arm whereby said rock-shaft' and said passenger-carrier connected therewith are oscillated when said car is propelled.
In testimony, that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of May, 1912.
ANTONIO MOLINARES. VVi-tnesses:
