To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that 1, WILLIAM lBoRoHABDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Machine for Attaching Gut to Fish-Hooks, of which the following is a specification. My invention consists in a machine for attaching strands of gut to fish-hooks, and comprises mechanism particularly valuable in producing a union between the hook anti gut of a character especially adapted fo use in the manufacture of what are commonly termed fly hooks in which the simulation of the body and wingsrof an insect is attempted. Among others, an object of my invention is to afford mechanical means for accomplishing results heretofore only produced by hand.
A further object is the production of a machine for the purposes described which is simple and direct in operation and inexpensive in point of manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent on consideration of the following portions of this specification and the appended claims.
These desiderata I attain through the mechanism illustrated in. the accompanying drawings, in which F gure 1 is a top plan view of the complete machine; Fig. 2 a front elevation of the device of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 an end elevation; Fig. 4 a sectional view, scale, along line A'B of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 a sectional view, on enlarged scale, along line CD of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 a detail view, on enlarged scale, serving to better illustrate the construction and arrangement of certain important elements 7 a perspective illustrative of the result attained through the use of this machine.

In the practiceof my invention I provide a table or late 1, to which are secured a plurality 0 standards 2 supporting bearings 3, 4, 5 and 5 In bearings 3 and 4 1s mounted a shaft 6, the same supporting a fly-Wheel 7 having a belt-groove 7 and terminating in a vise-like member 8. To the opposite extremity-of shaft 16 is secured a worm 17 meshing with a worm-gear 17 and upon the face of gear 17 is secured a clover-leaf cam 18 especially contrived to impart to tant movements hereinafter described. Depending from the casing 16 of shaft 16 is a member 19 serving to support an arm 20 pivoted at 21, a spring 22 acting to retain arm-extension 20 in contact with the edge of cam 18. a
Referring to Figs! 1 and 3, it will be seen that member 19 is, preferably, made integral with casting 23 provided with a setscrew 24 which is disposed opposite an aperture 25. Through aperture 25 is projected a standard 26 and it is obvious that upon operation of screw 24'parts 15 to 20, inclusive, can. be raised or lowered and thus minutely adjusted with reference to member 8.
Secured at the rear of plate 1 is a standard 27 supporting a thread-tension device 28 and terminating in a shelf 29 having one or more rods 30 serving to retain spools of thread. Device 28 comprises two beveled are retained in juxtaposition through the agency of coil springs 30*, the operation of these several parts being regulated through movement of nut 31 revolubly mounted on a rod 32.
Disposed opposite tension device 28 is'a thread waxing apparatus embracing a weighted member 33 provided with an apertured extremity 33 and oppositely secured with a cup 34 in which is supported on rod 35 a roller 36, the cup being raised on depressing a lever 37 fulcrumed at 37 and hingedly connected with member 33 through a pivoted link 38.
