To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID G-IRsoN, a citizen ofv the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Racks for Pool-Balls; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to racks for pool balls and the chief object is to provide means for retaining the balls in position in the racks until they are released by an authorized attendant for use in a game.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a view of the device in front elevation. Figs. 2 and 3 show details of construction.

In Fig. l, I have illustrated a frame 35 which may be attached to the face of a rack of ordinary construction for the purpose of retaining the balls in the troughs, or other retaining devices which are usually provided. The side walls of the frame 35 are grooved as shown at 36 and these grooves receive side bars 37 designed to operate in the grooves and raise or lower the connecting cross bars 38, and thereby position the latter in the middle of the space between the troughs, for the purpose of preventing the removal of the balls, except by an authorized person. When the movable frame described is in the position just mentioned it may be retained by means of an ordinary lock 39, the key of which is carried by the attendant.

A plurality of numerating or registering devices 25 may be mounted in the troughs and may be operated by means of knobs 26 carried on stems passing through the ends of the troughs and through the side walls of the casing. These numerating devices may be of the type described in my copending application filed June 8, 1911, #631,979.

What I claim is:

1. In a device of the class described, a casing, a plurality of troughs mounted therein, a frame arranged for detachable connection with the casing, a second frame within the frame first mentioned and including a series of cross bars, said cross bars designed to prevent access at times to portions of the casing, and said second frame being slidable within the frame first mentioned.

2. In a device of the class described, a casing, a plurality of substantially parallel devices mounted therein for carrying balls, a frame arranged for connection with the casing, a second frame slidable within the frame first mentioned and including uprights and substantially parallel cross bars, said cross bars being disposed intermediate of the ball carrying devices, extending in the same direction and movable transversely with reference thereto, and a lock for securing the sliding frame.

3. In a device of the class described, a casing, a plurality of substantially parallel devices mounted therein for carrying balls, a frame slidable with reference to the casing and including members arranged to occupy a position intermediate of the devices for carrying the balls, and means for locking the frame.
