we will have thc selector back in normal position but engaged by a plurality of transmitting gears occupying different angular positions in respect to the shaft 8, according to the values ot the operated keys. Upon the operation ot' the handle, the selector 6 will be moved in the direction ot the arrow, Fig. 3, and the ditterently set transmitting gears will engage the totalizer wheels and transfer thereto the diterent values, according to the angular positions of the transmitting gears. The transmitting gear carriage, at the completion of this transferring action, will now be shifted one space to the right by the cam 4t2, and the cam 3Gthen acting, will return the selector to normal position and the transmitting gears to their set vback angular positions, and following this action, the cam 48 will return the whole group ot t lansmitting gears tothe right to the position shown in F ig. il, and :following this the differently set transmitting gears will be borne upon by the returning arm 5T, and they will be turned about the axis S trom their diiterent angular positions to be lined up by contacting with the under side of the bar 5l.
In order to eliminate errors, I provide a key at (3G which is connected with the bell crank lever -l-t. By the operation ot this key the carriage ot the transmitting gears may be shifted to withdraw the said gears out ot connection with the totalizer whtels, and to set them opposite the spaces between the said totalizer wheels, so that, upon the operation ot the hand lever, no transferring action will take place.
The totalizer may be of any approved type. I prefer to arrange the transmitting wheels in a position to add the number 9 when in normal relation to the other parts, because in this way I can employ such a connection between the keys and the shaft otl the selector that the movement o'l the shaft under the action ot the keys will be in the saine direction with that imparted to the sha't't when the hand lever is operated. In other werds, when a key is operated, the pin on its hub will strike the pin on the shaft, and turn the same toward the let't at its upper part, and when the hand lerer is operated, the shat't will turn in the same direction, its pin moving away from the pin on the hub of the key lever,l and thus having no contiict therewith. tepeated subtractions may be eilected by pressing in the subtracting key and the multiplying key, and operating the handle.

In combination in a machine of the class described, a toothed selector, a group ot' transmittingelements, and means including keys for lirst adjusting the selector to its ditierent positions according to the values of the keys struck, and for connecting the adjusted selector with the transmitting elements sev-imma, and totalizer means to receive the values from the transmitting elements, substantially as described.

In combination a totalizer, a group of transmitting gears, a selector, key connections for turning the selector and for shifting the transmitting gears into connection therewith, and a handle with means for turning the selector in the same direction as -'the keys for throwing the transmitting gears mitting gears, a selector, key connections for operating the selector, and for connecting vtransmitting gears in relation to the totalizer, means for shifting the transmitting transmitting gears, and means for turning the transmitting gears forward and backward, and for shifting them axially while still maintaining their engagement with the selector, substantially as described.

In combination ink a machine 0f the class described, a totalizer, a group of transmitting gears to operate the totallzer, means for selecting the transmitting gears, means for turning the transmittin gears to turn the totalizer, means for shiting, the transmitting gears one step axially to-disengage from or engage the totalizer, means for shifting the group of transmittin gears axially to disengaged position, an means for eliminating the function of the shifting means last mentioned to repeat the movement ofthe transmitting gears onto the totalizer, substantially as described.

In combination a totalizer, a group of transmitting gears, selector `means for the transmitting gears, meansjor turning the transmitting gears forwardvlfand backward, means for shifting the transmitting ears, a controlling device to determine whet er said shiftin movement will take place before or after t e transferring action of the transestv mitting gears upon the totalizer whereby subtraction may be performed, means `f or shifting the transmitting gears to their d1sengaged positions, and means for eliminating the functions of said shifting means whereby repeated actions of the transmitting gears upon the totalizer may be effected,
substantially as described.
