Be it known that I, O'r'ro H. Rnm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Honolulu, in the Hawaii, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Removing the Pulp from Previously-Separated Pineapple-Peel, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the class of pineapple-treating machines.

In the art as heretofore generally practised there have been two distinct types of machines for divesting the pineapple of its peel or skin or rind, by any of which terms its floral-bract investment may be appropriately designated. One of these types cuts the peel away from the outside to the extent defined by the approach to the edible pulp, by which term t e solid mass of the succulent fieshy inflorescence of the fruit may be prope'rly'called. The other type of machine cores the mass of edible pulp out of the peel, at the same time splitting the peel into segments for greater facility in removingthe cored out mass. This latter type has some advantages, chiefly that-of s ed, and perhaps, insuring a pulp which 1s less liable to have inedible remnants of the tough peelthe other hand, for these very reasons, there is a resulting waste in the fact that a not inccnsiderable portion of the edible pulp remains with the out off peel and is thrown away.

Itis the object of my invention to prevent this waste by removing this edible pulp which still clings to the flesh-side of the cut off peel, to the end that it may be used in one former another as food.

My invention consists in the novel machine and in its construction, arrangement and combination'of parts which I shall now fully describe by reference to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is anend view of my machine. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.

The cutter-head is driven by a belt 6 to a pulley 7. 8 is a frame rising from the stand 1. To this is secured the bracket 9, which carries the Island of Oahu and Territory of screw 11. In the upper portion of the frame 8 is rotatably mounted a presser roll 16, havingasmooth surface. The frame 8 also has secured to it a v guard shield 17 which overlies the cutter -head. 18 is a screen underlying the cutter-head. Bythe rotation of thedrum, the peel is then presented to the action of the knives 5, which cut off from it the pulp to be saved. This screen 18 and such bits of the hard peel as may be broken oil and fall down with it are there separated. The peel being now divested of so much of the pulp as may be desired, is carried on down and may be readily removed from the carrier-drum in suitable manner. The adjustment of the carrier-drum provides for suitable regulation of the coacting parts consistently with the thickness of the peel and the amount of pulp to be scraped or cut off. The guardplate 17 protects the presser roll from fly n particles and pieces and directs the material forward so that it may fall down upon the screen 18.

Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent is 1. In a machine for the described. purpose, the combination of a rotatable carrierdrum provided with means on its periphery for engaging and holding the sections of pulp falls upon the peel with the flesh-sideoutward, a rotatable cutter head provided with cutting lUIIVBS extending-parallel to thecar'rier said carrier-drum being so arranged relatively to the cutter-head as to present the flesh-side of said peel sections to the act-ion of the knives in order to remove the pulp from said sections.

2. In a machine for the described purpose, the combination of -a rotatable carrier-drum provided with a paling pins on its periphery for engaging and holding the sections of peel with the flesh-side outward, a rotatable cutter head provided with cutting knives extending parallel to the carrier drum said carrier-drum being so arranged relatively to the cutterhead' as to present the flesh-side of said peelsections to the action of the knives in order to remove the pulp from said sect-ions.

In a machine for the described purpose, the combination of a rotatable carrier-drum provided with a number of ifnpaling pins on its periphery projecting therefrom at an inclination in the direction of the drums rotation for engaging and holding the sections of peel with the flesh-side outward, a rotatable cutterhead provided with cutting knives extending parallel to the carrier drum said carrier-drum being so arranged relatively to the cutter-head as to present the fleshside of said peel sections to the action of the knives in order to remove the pulp from said sections.

In a machine for the described purpose, the combination of a rotatable carrierdrum provided with means on its periphery for engaging and holding the sections of peel with the flesh-side outward,'a rotatable cutter head provided with cutting knives extending parallel to the carrier drum said carrier-drum being so arranged relatively to the cutter-head as to present the fleshnumber of im-' side of said peel sections to the action of the knives in order to remove the pulp from said sections, and means for adjusting the carrier-drum to and from the cutter-head.
