To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lenox, in the county of Dent, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apple Goring and Sectioning Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for simultaneously removing the core from an apple and dividing the apple into sections, and has for an object to provide a device of this character having a novel lever for pressing the apple through the cutting head.
A further object of the invention is to provide a housing for the head which will deliver the core and sections separately without manual attention.
A. still further object is to provide a device of this character which may be quickly applied to or removed from an ordinary apple parer so that the paring, sectioning, and removing the core from an apple, may be accomplished in a minimum time.
With the above objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the paring device with which my invention is to be assembled. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the paring device assembled with my invention. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, 9 designates in general the paring device with which my invention is designed to be assembled. The device includes among other things a bracket 10 to which an ordinary slicing knife 11 is secured through the instrumentality of bolts 12. Upon removal of the slicing knife, these bolts form means for attaching the coring device about to be described.
The coring device consists of a bracket 13 having an upstanding flange 14 at one end provided with openings to receive the securing bolts 12 above referred to. The opposite end of the bracket is equipped with an upstanding-arm 15 to which is removably secured by means of screw threads, the tubular shank 16 of the cutting head. The free end of the shank or tube, as this member will hereinafter be called, is cut away diagonally to facilitate entry into an apple, the core of the apple being received within the tube during the coring operation. The tube is provided with a plurality of radially extending blades 17 disposed approximately centrally on, the exterior of the tube and having their leading edges sharpened to facilitate cutting the apple into sections.
A substantially L-shaped arm 18 is formed integral with the bracket 13, and to the upper end of this arm is centrally pivoted a presser lever 19. The lever is provided at the inner end with a bifurcated working end 20, the branches of which are spaced apart sufiiciently to permit of the reception therebetween of the tube 16. The branches are adapted to bear upon an apple impaled upon the tube and force the apple along the tube through the knives whereby the apple is simultaneously cored and sectioned.
Fixed to the bracket 13 is a curved trough 21 which underlies the blades and receives the apple sections therefrom. The trough is designed to deliver the sections separate from the cores, and to attain this end an arched housing 22 is arranged over the blades, and is provided at the outer end with a wall 23 which is secured to the upstanding arm 15 of the bracket, and is furthermore equipped with an opening 24: which exposes the outlet end of the tube. This wall forms a baffle which prevents cores discharged from the tube from entering into the trough.
In operation, the fruit is impaled upon the tube 16, and the divided head of the lever placed against the fruit. Upon pressure then being applied to the grip end of the lever the fruit will be pressed longitudinally along the tube and the fruit simultaneously cored and sectioned, the sections dropping into the trough, and the core entering into the tube from which it is ejected by the cores of other fruits subsequently operated upon.

A vegetable coring and sectioning device including a supporting bracket, a fruit sectio-ning' and coring means carried horizontally upon said bracket, and an arched housing extending over the top and sides of said means and having a discharge opening in the bottom directly below said means, said housing having a rear Wall marginall formed integral With the rear edge of said housing and extending to the bottom of said housing.
