To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK Sra nns, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing in London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sinks for Washing Crockery, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention has for its object an improved device for washing crockery by means of which not only is a considerable economy of water efiected but any direct communication between the drain and the compartments of the device in which the washing takes place, is avoided.

The invention further provides for the better cleansing or flushing of the aforesaid washing compartments with a view to removing tea leaves or other matter that may have .collected.

The device according to the present invention is moreover so constructed and arranged that the hot and cold supply pipes and the necessary taps or cocks controlling the hot and cold water, are dispensed with, and the hot water is constantly supplied so that the various washing and rinsing compartments are always full and require no attention in this respect.

I The present invention further embodies various other hereinafter described improvements whereby the .efliciency and utility of the device is greatly increased.

Referring to the accompanying drawings in which is shown a simple form of the device embodying a single washing and rinsing tank, a indicates an oblong receptacle which may be formed of wood, metal, earthenware or any other suitable material but which in the present instance is formed of wood. The heated air from the burner e heats the bottom of b and passes through the jacket and serves to heat the water in the compartment 6 the heating being facilitated by the tubes f aforesaid. Provision is made whereby the person standing at the compartment is protected against the heat of the burner or the heated metal of the rinsing compartment, and further, a tap may be provided whereby the hot water may be drawn oil from the compartment 79 if desired. Draining boards 0 0 may be provided at each end of the receptacle.

The compartments as will be seen on reference to the drawings are of different depths, the rinsing compartment Z2 being the shallowest and each of the compartments 5 b are provided at the bottom with tubes 9 g which communicate with the next compartment. The tubes are ordinarily closed by means of plugs which, when it is desired to flush or clean the respective compartments, are removed and the water rushing across the bottom of the receptacle will efiectually cleanse same, at the same time removing any matter that is adhering to said bottom and which would otherwise require to be scraped ofi' or otherwise mechanically removed. In order that the matter just referred to may pass readily into the overflow compartment, the tube g isof sufficient dimensions to permit the ready passage of any matter that may be in the washing receptacle. The water passes between the rinsing compartment and the washing compartmentby overflowing the said rinsing compartment, but instead of providing a partition between the washing and overflow coinpartments designed to permit the overflow of the said washing compartment, I prefer to keep the height of the partition equal to the height of the walls of ,the compartment and form an aperture h in the said partition through which the'water passes into the overflow. By this means I am enabled to prevent the splashing of the water and the like, when the waste in the cups, plates or the like is thrown into the overflow preparatory to washing same, into the washing compartment the water in which is thus kept in a much better condition than if it were permitted to receive the aforesaid splashings of the overflow compartment. At the same time the partition being of the same height as the rest of the receptacle it affords a means of support for a tray or rack con taining dirty vessels which may then be allowed to drain into the receptacle in the overflow while waiting to be washed. The overflow compartment 6 communicates through the trap 71 with the drain, not shown, and a grid or the like is provided in it to prevent any solid matter passing down and choking the trap or the drain.

j indicates a refuse receptacle which is of approximately wedge shaped outline and at the bottom j is provided with a sheet or plate of perforated metal or the like whereby while the passage of water is readily permitted, anysolid matter is retained. The depth of the receptacle is such that a space is left between the bottom thereof and the bottom of the overflow compartment. A soreenw may be arranged upon the bottom of the overflow compartment between the front and the trap The receptacle 9' is provided at 7' with a cross bar and at the far end a handle j may also be provided. To facilitate the removal of the receptacle, I provide upon the sides of the compartment inclined projections or fillets indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, which fillets or the like form inclined guides and permit the receptacle to he slid forward and upward for the purpose of removing it, the said removal being effected much more readily than if the said receptacle required to be lifted.

In order to facilitate the treatment of cups and other articles which are preferably first soaked before washing, I provide a trough Z upon one side of the washing compartment, the bottom of said trough being below the level of the water in the washing compartment so that it is kept filled and the water constantly overflowing all the time the device is in use.

Claims:

1. A device for washing crockery comprising a washing compartment, a waste compartment into which said washing compartment overflows, a removable waste receptacle in said waste compartment, said receptacle being supported clear of the bottom of the said waste compartment, a perforated extension on the waste pipe below the said receptacle, an inclined front surface to the receptacle, inclined guides for assisting the removal of the receptacle, a rinsing compartment overflowing into the washing compartment, a hot water supply, and a plug controlled communication between each of the waste, washing, and rinsing compartments.

A device for washing crockery comprising a washing compartment, a waste compartment into which said washing compartment overflows, a removable receptacle in. said waste compartment, a perforated extension on the waste pipe below said receptacle, a perforated partition between said overflow and the entry for the water from the bottom of thewashing compartment, a rinsing compartment overflowing into said waste compartment, and a hot water supply for the rinsingcompartment, said hot water being received by a shallow trough through which it passestothe rinsing receptacle, a plug controlled aperture in the end wall of the trough, and a plug controlled communication between each of the waste, washing and rinsing receptacles.

A device for washing crockery comprising a washing compartment, a waste compartment into which said washing compartment overflows, a removable waste receptacle in said waste compartment, said receptacle being supported clear of the bottom of said waste compartment, and being provided with a waste aperture, an inclined front surface to the receptacle, inclined guides for assisting the removal of the receptacle, a rinsing compartment overflowing into the washing compartment, a hot water supply and a plug controlled com munication between each of the waste, washing and rinsing compartments.

A device for washing crockery comprising a washing compartment, a waste compartment into which said washing compartment overflows, a removable waste receptacle in said waste compartment, said receptacle being supported clear of the bottom of said waste compartment, and being provided with a waste aperture, an inclined front surface to the receptacle, inclined guides for assisting the removal of the receptacle, a rinsing compartment overflowing into the washing compartment, a communication between the bottom of the rinsing compartment and the waste compartment, a hot water supply and a plug controlled communication between each of the waste, washing and rinsing compartments.

5. A device for washing crockery comprising a washing compartment, a waste partment overflows, a removable waste receptaclein said waste compartment, said receptacle being supported clear of the bottom of said waste compartment, and being compartment into which said washing comprovided with a waste aperture, an inclined front surface to the receptacle, inclined guides for assisting the removal of the receptacle, a rinsing compartment overflowing into the washing compartment, a communication between the bottom of the rinsing compartment and the waste compartment, a perforated partition between the waste pipe and the entry for the water from the bottom of the washing compartment, a hot water supply and a plug controlled communication between each of the waste, washing and rinsing compartments.

6. A device for washing crockery comprising a washing compartment, a waste compartment into which said washing compartment overflows, a communication between the bottom of the rinsing compartment and the waste compartment, a removable receptacle in said waste compartment, and being provided with a waste aperture,

a perforated partition between said overflow and the entry for the water from the bottom of the washing compartment, a rinsing compartment overflowing into said washing compartment, and a hot water supply for the rinsing compartment, said hot water being received by a shallow trough through which it passes to the rinsing receptacle, a plug controlled aperture in the end wall of the trough, and a plug con trolled communication between each of the waste, washing and rinsing receptacles.
