Be it known that I, JOHN T. JANETTE,
l a citizen of the'United States, residing at Chicago, county of' Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful' Improvements -in Motor-,(`)ontro1lii1gl Devices,
of `which. the following is a specification.
My invention relates'to improvements in controlling devices for motors, ywith especial reference'to that class of devices which are employed for' automatically' starting and --stopping an electric motor connected with air pumping mechanism, whereby a desired air pressure in the delivery or service pipe connections may be uniformly maintained. The object of my invention is to provide a' form of controlling apparatus which will be actuated in part by the air itselfwhen the predetermined pressure is attained, and in part by an independent positive movement or free throw, adapted to separate the electrical connections with a quick positive stroke independently of the slower inc vements caused by the gradually increasing pressure of the air.

When the diaphragme is lifted by the air pressure in the lower part of the diaphragm chamber, the actuating member N moves downwardly until the roller passes the extremity z' of the lever I and engages upon the angular under surface n of said lever, whereupon the pressure of the roller N of the actuating member N, will be exerted upon the 'angular face n and will tendto lift this arm of the lever I, thereby also vlifting the switch bar F out of contact with the terminals f. This lifting pressure is produced by the reaction of the spring O and` therefore, as soon as the switch bar F commences to move, the pull exerted by said spring O will cause it to lift with a quick positive stroke in a manner to prevent dev structive areing between the contacts f and terminals f. y
It is desirable. that the engagement of the contact arms f'with the terminals f shall be a forcible engagement, and the ter- -minal lips f are'therefore formed of resilient material capable of 'exerting' considerable frictional pressure upon thecontact arms f. ForI this reason the springO. cannotbe made of sufficient strength to insure the lifting of the switch bar F under all conditions withouthaving said spring O .of such strength as to .require considerable power to force the roller N past the lever extremity z'.y .For this reason the4 foot piece M is provided, and a spring O of comparatively light -weight is used." The parts are so proportioned, that as soon as the roller N passes below the lever extremity z', the foot piecev Ml will come in contact' with the other arm of the lever IA beyond the pivot I and thus. exert a direct downward pressure upon this arm of the lever I, whereby theinitial upward movement ofthe switch bar F may be easily produced.' `This movement will continue until the Contact arms f of the switch bar F are suiiiciently released4 to permit them to be thrown upwardly by a quick positive stroke caused by the reaction'of spring O.-
