Description

c. TEMME.
Cooking Stove. Na. 103,389. Pzzmed May 24,1870.
CHRISTIAN TEMME, oF sT. Louis, Missounr.
`eooKNe-sTovE.
Specification fornng part of'Letters Paient No. E03,39, dated May 24, 1870.
To all whmn it' may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRIsTIAN TEMME, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful -Improvenents in Oookiiig-Stoves and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and true description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thcreon'.
This invention relates, first, to a novel arrangement of the air-draft to the hearth of a fire of a Wood-stove, or to the grating and fire-place for the coal-stove. Seeondly, this invention relates to the arrangement for the distribution of the hot gases of combustion after escaping from the fire-place and passing into the flues surrounding the bake-oven and other interior compartments.
' To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my said invention, I will now more fully describe the same, referring to the accompanying Figure l as a sectional elevation, to Fig. 2 as a front elevation, to Fig. 3 as a top plan, and to Fig. 4 as a detail section, showing the use of the Wood-grate.
The general outline of the stove is, as shown in the figures, approximating to the. usual forms.
A is the fire-place, inmediately over which is the top plate, B, of the stove, arranged with proper pot-holes inthe usual manner. Immediately under the fire-place is the ash-chamber C. In the rear of the fire-place and ashchamber is the oven D.
In my said stove, in case Wood is burned the ordinary hearth-plate is used, and in case coal is burned the basket-grating, such as may be adapted to the species of coal burned,
may also be employed.
As heretofore stated to be in the nature of this invention, the air-draft to the fire-place is arranged peculiarly. The draft-opening E is placed on the lower front of the stove, communicating With the rising air-duct e, Which discharges under the damper F. Under said damper is the air-inlet passage f, leading directly into the fire-place.
The bake-oven D forms within the stove a separate compartment. From the fire-back plate G there extends back horizontally the flueldividing plate g, leaving sufficient space between the same and the chimney-flue partition H to form a return-flue, d, over the top and front sides of the oven D. Furthernore` at the bottom of said oven and asl-Chamber is the botton flue, d', connecting With the return-due d and extending the entire length of the stove, conneeting, finally, With the chimney-flue (ZZ. A continuous fiue` surrounding the bake-oven is thus made through Which the hot gases pass, as indicated by the arrows. (Shown i`n Fig. l.)
In order to regulate the distribution of gases through their proper flues, l have arranged a damper, h, secured to the chimney-partition H, constructed and op erated in the usual manner. XVhen, therefore, the gases of conbustion pass along the inclined grate-back G, and over the top horizontal fire-plate, (f, in case said damper is closed, said gases are caused to return into the flues d, d', and (ZZ, surrounding the oven D, and, finally, exit through their proper chinney-fiue. XVhen, however, said danper h is left open, the exit or discharge of the hot gases through the damper-opening directly through the ehinney takes place, uas usual. i
It is plain that by my arrangeinent of the flues surrounding the bake-oven an equalization of the heat must necessarily take place, and that many of the ineonveniences and damages arising from the unequal distribution of the same is thus avoided.
To cleanse the flues from their impurities, there is in front of the stove the flue-opening I, Which Will be closed by a suitable flue-stopper, fi.
In order to better utilize the heat, I have arranged a reservoir, I', on the top of the stove, having an extension-flue, (chimney,) (ZZ, connecting With the ehimney-flue. Said reservoir Will be constructed in the usual form, having proper appurtenances thereunto belonging.
Having thus fully described my said invention, What I claim is- 1. A Wood or coal stove arranged with draftopening E, rising air-duct e, damper F, airinlet f, in combination with the fire-place A., substantially as set forth.
2. The bzke-oven D7 having flues d d' (ZZ, In testimony of said nventon I have hereentrely surrounding the same When combined unto set my hand. With the flue-openng I, horzontal plate g, and damper k, substantially as set forth.
3. The extension-fine (ZZ, Wdening trans- XVitnesses: versely, and armnged to be connected With the reservoir I', subsbanbially as set forth.
CHRISTIAN TEMME.
