Description

W. V. ROBINSON.
PLATE LIFTER.
APPLICATION FILED on. 1, 1909.
1,033,350, Patented July 23, 1912.
1 @lll UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM V. ROBINSON, OF OWOSSO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR' TO THE INDEPENDENT STOVE COMPANY, OF OWOSSO, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
PLATE-LIFTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23,1912.
Application filed October 1, 1909. Serial No. 520,533.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM V. ROBIN- SON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Owosso, in the county of Shiawassee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Plate-Lifters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates particularly to a lift for stove top plates designed to elevate and retain the plate in its raised position to permit ready access to the stove interior, and the invention consists in the novel and simple construction of the lift, in the peculiar arrangement and combination of parts, and in certain details of construction as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings,-*Figure is a sectional perspective view of an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a section taken on line E-$ of Fig. 1, the plate being partly broken away; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the main operating lever; and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the plate bearing.
In the drawings thus briefly described, A designates the top of the stove, of any desired construction, and B the usual top plate supported upon a suitable ledge, as C. D is a bracket upon the bottom side of the plate extending rearwardly thereof and adapted to bear against the stove top during the raising of the plate to prevent its displacement.
E represents an angle plate arranged upon one end of the top plate, the arm or member a of which projects along the end of the main plate, as shown, and forms a bearing for the operating lever. The arm a is preferably in the form of a housing, is pro vided with an incline or cam face 6 on its under side, and with a roller 0 at the end of the incline which forms an antifriction bearing for the lever.
F represents the lever referred to for actuating the plate, in the form of a bell crank provided with oppositely disposed trunnions d at the angle which are journaled within a socket bearing 6 on the edge of the stove top.
The operation will be obvious from the construction, the raising of the top plate when it is desired to obtain access to the interior of the stove being effected by a depression of the lever, the arm f, engaging the roller 0 and subsequently the incline, the latter serving to retain the top plate in its elevated position. The arm f of the operating lever is preferably curved, as shown, and a slot f is formed in the stove top into which the curved portion of the lever drops when the parts are in their normal position. The angle plate serves as a housing to cover the curved portion of the lever and the slot.
What I claim as my invention is,
1. In a stove, the combination with a top slotted adjacent to the top plate, of said top plate, a member carried by the plate and normally covering the slot, and a bell-crank lever for raising said top plate fulcrumed upon the stove top having one of its arms engageable with the member carried by the plate and insertible Within the slot.
2. The combination with a stove top, of the rockable top plate, a projection upon the plate having an incline formed upon its lower surface and provided with an antifriction'bearing, a bell crank lever for raising said plate fulcrumed upon the stove top having one of its arms positioned for engagement with said anti-friction bearing and the incline.
3. In a stove, the combination with a top provided with a slot, of a top plate, an arm secured and projecting laterally from one end of the plate having a transverse portion normally covering said slot, bearings upon the stove top, and a lever for raising said plate pivoted in said bearings having an arm positioned within said slot, said transverse portion having an inclined bearing with which the arm of said lever is adapted to engage.
4. In a stove the combination with a top provided with a slot, of a top plate, an arm secured to and projecting laterally from the plate having a transverse portion provided with an inclined bearing surface upon the under face thereof, bearings upon the stove, a bell-crank lever for raising said plate fulcrumed in said bearings and having one arm thereof normally positioned within the slot in operative relation to said inclined bearing surface.
5. In a stove, the combination with a top provided with a slot, of a top plate, an arm secured to and projecting laterally from the plate having a transverse portion provided with an inclined bearing surface upon the under face thereof, bearings upon the stove,
a bell-crank lever for raising said plate ful In testimony whereof I aflix my signature crumetfl'in saidlbearings anl havlilng 01116311711 in presence of two Witnesses.
thereo normal y osit-ione Wit in te s otin operative relation to said inclined bear- WILLIAM ROBINSON ing surface, the outer end of the lever arm. Witnesses:
