CORE-BOARD FOR PIECE GOODS.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented J uly 23, 1912.
Application filed November 5, 1910. Serial No. 590,921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FimNK E. KEYns, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Core- Boards for Piece Goods; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in warping of the board, and furthermore coreboards thus constructed have rough edges which are liable to injure the goods. Efforts have been made to counteract these objections and defects by inclosing the boards within thin fabric envelops, but this has been found to be ineffectual and expensive.
The object of my invention is to overcome the difficulties heretofore encountered with pore-boards and to construct a boardin such manner as to obviate said difiiculties and to provide a board having smooth edges and one which shall have suitable thickness bout the use of built up sheets glued toith this end in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a tube from which my improved core board is made, and Fig.
2 1s a view in perspective of the completed core board.
and which shall not be liable to warp.
'ing witnesses.
1 represents a tube or cylinder composed of a single thickness of paper pulp. After the pulp tube has .been formed and while in a moistened condition it is flattened by suitable means into the form illustrated in Fig. 2 which results in the production of a corebo-ard formed of two thicknesses of paper pulp without seam or joint or the use of glue or other adhesive material, the sides 2 of the board being rounded while the side 3 may be made of any desired shape.
'Aeore-board constructed of paper pulp in the manner described, has been found by actual practice to withstand all tendency to Warp out of shape, which is doubtless due 'to the fact that the paperpulp tube when flattened while in a moist condition has no tendency to warp or bend but will retain the form imparted to it by pressure. I Again the core-board as thus constructed from a single thickness of paper pulp tube, does not re'-' quire the use of any glutinous o-r adhesive material to retain it in shape and hence the goods wound. upon it cannot be injured by exuding glutinous material, which fro-- quently results from the use of core-boards formed of several layers of paper glued togcther.
Having fully described my invention What I I claim as new and desire to secure by Let.- ters-Patent, is,
A core board consisting of a flattened tube 7 having seamless sides and side'edges formed of a single thickness of paper pulp, substantially as set forth. I
In testimony whereof, I have signed this Witnesses:
