MACHINE FOR MAKING MOLDS FOR CAST CHAIN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT Soni'innorr, manufacturer, residing at Gevelsberg, Westphalia, Germany, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, have invented a new and useful/Machine for Making Molds for Cast Chain, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a machine to produce a continuous mold-block for chains'and the like articles by means of pattern rollers, which are angularly arranged over a miter shaped bed or bracket in order to form with the said bracket a rectangular passage for the continuous block which when forced through said passage is provided with the pattern on two adjacent sides and which may be stiffened by a tube or bar in a known manner so as to better resist the forces exerted thereon. The mold may be composed of ordinary molding material such as sand and loam, or of any suitable and well known material; but this feature forms no part of the invention.
The invention is fully shown on the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved machine, Fig. 2 shows a quarter of the produced mold block.
The machine consists of a bracket (6 having the miter shaped surface a a and being formed as a slide traveling to and fro on the frame .7). F or this purpose the bracket a is fitted with a nut (Z at its underside in which engages a threaded spindle c which is journaled in the said frame 6 and causes the travel of the bracket when revolved. On the spindle 0 is keyed a gear 6 meshing with a like gear 6 on a shaft 6 Said shaft carries a toothed wheel f which gears with a wheel f fast on a shaft f By means of a pulley g keyed to the shaft f rotation is imparted and the bracket a is accordingly moved.
Above the bracket a are arranged the pattern rolls 7c and 7c their working surfaces forming an angle as shown over the miter shaped bracket a. Said rollers are keyed on shafts Z, Z which are journaled in bearings a, n These bearings are movably guided in standards 8, s projecting from the bed 6 left and right. Set screws 0, 0

serve to adjust the bearings n, a together with their rollers 70 and Z6 and nuts m are provided to adjust the position of the rollers 71: and 0 on their shafts. On the bracket a are fastened racks h, [L1 with which gears 2', 2' engage, respectively, and it will now be easy to understand that the said bracket in traveling to and fro revolves the pattern rollers 70 and 7&1 accordingly. On the bracket a is placed the block of molding material which for better resisting the pressure and other forces exerted thereon is stiffened in a known manner by a pipe or bar (1 running through said mold as shown. The mold block passing underneath the pattern rollers is, A will receive the chain pattern on both adjacent angle faces. By reason of the rollers 72 70 being of a larger diameter than the wheels 2', 2' the mold will be compressed in the downward and in a forward direction so that the impression shall be uniformly perfect.
I declare that what I claim is:
1. A machine for making molds for east chain or the like articles comprising a miter shaped bracket for receiving a block of molding material, means for moving said bracket, pattern rollers each disposed at an angle above said bracket and means to adjust and revolve said rollers as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. A mold making machine comprising a bracket having means thereon for carrying a piece of molding material, means for moving said bracket horizontally, and depression rollers having their axes obliquely dis posed and their peripheries contacting adjacent surfaces of the molding material for making depressions therein during the movement of the brackets.
3. In a mold making machine, means for supporting and moving a piece of molding material horizontally, rollers above said means having their respective axes approximately at right angles to each other, said rollers having means on their peripheries for contacting the molding material and making depressions into adjacent surfaces thereof.
