To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED R. TAISEY, of Lowell, in the county of Hiddlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers for Pneumatic-Tube Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in carriers for pneumatic despatch tube apparatus and its object is to simplify the construction of the same and to permit of their being easily taken apart for repairs or the replacing of parts.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated a construction embodying my invention in which:
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the carrier. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2, Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional portion of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the inner shell of the carrier showing location of the controlling disk. Fig. 5 is an end eleva- 7 and 8 are detail views to be hereinafter described.

Referring to the drawings ;-A and B represent respectively the outer and inner shells of the carrier and having the peripheral openings a and b thereinadapted to be rotatably thrown into and out of cooperation with relation to each other to open or The shell B carries the buffer C secured to its closed end by means of nut N and screws 12. The opposite end of said shell B carries the internal projecting flange E part of which forming the stops F and G (see Fig. 8). The outer shell A is inclosed at one end and entirely open at the other end and carries secured to its inclosed end the buffer D held in posit-ion by the screws m and nut M.
H is a disk having stamped therein the depression J carrying the holes K through which are adapted to pass the screws m to secure the disk to the inclosed end of shell A. This disk is mounted Within the shell B with its outer edge against the inside of the flange E and when said disk is secured to the shell A prevents the longitudinal sepaation of the shells but permits the rotation of said shells with relation to each other.

To limit the rotation of these shells A and B to secure the proper registry and nonregistry of the openings (0 and Z), there is provided a stop L stamped on the disk H, this stop being adapted to rotate with the shell A and disk H in alinement with the flange E on the shell B to engage the stops F and G. Vith the parts in the relative positions shown in the figures, the stop L engages the stop G when the openings (0 and I) register and when these openings are closed the stop L engages with the stop F. To separate the parts, the screws m are withdrawn from the nut M when the shells may be separated and the disk H removed from the shell B.
I do not limit myself to the use of a nut to secure the buffer to the outer shell, as a disk may be used which limits the rotation of the two shells in the place of said nut.
Having thus described the nature of my invention and set forth a construction emwhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a carrier for pneumatic despatch tube apparatus, two cylindrical telescoping members each closed at one end and carrying a buffer attached thereto and having corresponding peripheral openings adapted to cooperate upon the rotation of said members, an internal projecting flange located on the open end of the inner member and carrying stops thereon, and a plate bearing against the inner'surface of said flange to prevent longitudinal separation of the members, said plate being secured to the closed end of the outer member and provided with a stop adapt-ed to engage said stops to limit the rotation of said members to the opening and the closing of the openings therein.
2. In a carrier forpneumatic despatch tube apparatus, two cylindrical telescoping members, the outer end of each member being closed 'and carrying a buffer attached thefeto-said members rotatable one within the other each having a corresponding peripheral opening therein, said openings cooperative upon rotation of said members, an internal flange on the open end of the inner member and cut away to form stops, a cup shaped disk or plate bearing against the inner surface of said flange and mounted inside of said flange and projecting into the open end of the inner member and secured to the closed end of the outer member to prevent longitudinal separation or" said members, and a laterally projecting stop or projection on said plate in alinement With the stops on said flange and adapted to engage the same to limit the rotation of the members to the opening and closing of the openings therein.
3. In a carrier for pneumatic despatch tube apparatus, an inner and an outer shell having one end closed and a buffer secured thereto, an internal flange located on the open end of the inner shell and a plate or disk bearingagainst the inner surface of said flange and located Within said flange and secured to the closed end of the outer shell, and carrying a laterally projecting stop adapted to cooperate With said flange to prevent longitudinal separation of said shells and to limit the rotation therein.
