The object of my invention is to overcome the difficulties heretofore experienced in brackets of this character by making the bracket in two parts.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an end elevation of a car with my invention secured thereto; Fig. 2 is a top plan View of one of the brackets detached; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line H, F 1g. 2, and Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the bracket.

The numeral 3 designates the coupler head, 4 the locking pin and 5 an unlocking rod which may be of any approved pattern. 6 is the operating handle of the rod 5. The inner end of the rod, as will be understood, is bent at right angles to the rod and projects out over the locking pin 4 to which it is secured directly or by means of a link or chain.
My improved bracket consists of the base plate 7 which may be constructed with any desirable contour.

As shown in Fig. 4, the ends of the strap 16, when the strap is in proper position on the base plate, project through the slots 15 and are flush with the bottom face of the base plate 7.
In practice, the base by the bolts 9 to the end sill of the car and the rod 5 is placed in the concaved seat 11.
The strap 16 is then placed over the rod and completes the bearing for the rod in conjunction with the concaved seat 11, the ends of i the strap projecting through the slots 15 flush. with the under face of the base plate 7 The cotter pin is then passed through the openings 17 in the strap and the hole 13 in the lug 10, thus securing the strap firmly and securely to the base plate. The-split end of the cotter pin is then spread as is usual with such pins, whereby the parts are firmly locked together against displacement.
In the event that it is-desired to remove the rod 5 for any purpose whatever, this may be easily accomplished by straightening the ends of the cotter pin, removing the cotter pin and the strap 16, whereupon the rod is free to be removed from the car with out disturbing the permanent fastenings securing the base plate of the bracket to the car.
