To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LYMAN L. ZARBAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 2742 Monroe street, in the city of Toledo, county of Lucas, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Syringe- Nozzle Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in syringe-nozzle attachments, and has more especially to do with that class of syringes used by dentists in cleaning cavities in the teeth and preparing them for filling.

In doing what is known as inlay work it is necessary for the dentist to take a wax impression of the cavity in the tooth. Heretofore the method of removing the wax impression from the cavity has been to heat the point of a short wire, technically known a spruce-wire and insert the heated end into the wax with one hand, and then with a syringe in the other hand to direct a stream of cold water upon the wire and the wax to cool them and harden the wax. The hardened wax impression, adhering to the. wire, is then removed from the cavity.

The object of my invention is to provide a means of inserting the sprue-wire into the wax impression while in the cavity, and of cooling the wire and wax, by using one combined instrument in one hand, thus leaving the other hand of the operator free to hold the lips and cheek away from the teeth, or for any other desirable uses while taking the impression.

To attain the desired object my invention consists of a combined syringe-nozzle and sprue-wire, the latter so mounted upon the former as to bring the point of the wire into the path of a stream of water ejected from the nozzle.

In order that the details of construction may be fully understood I have illustrated in the accompanying drawings a device constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention; and representing in one figure a side elevation thereof.

In the drawings, the reference numeral, 1, designates a dental syringe-nozzle of the ordinary type, having the ordinary means of attaching it to the syringe-bulb. A lug, 2, mounted near the small end of the nozzle is provided with an orifice, 3, through which a sprue-wire, 4, is passed. A set-screw, 5, holds the wire in place for use, and allows it to be removed, or adjusted as to the distance it is allowed to project beyond the nozzle.

As will be readily observed the spruewire is set at such an angle that a stream of water from the nozzle strikes upon the end of the wire that is inserted in the wax. Also that when the wire is removed from the nozzle the syringe is adapted to all its ordinary uses.

It is obvious that other simple means of attaching the sprue-wire to the nozzle may be successfully employed, without departing from the essential features of my invention, so I do not wishto be confined to the exact method of attaching and detaching the sprue-wire shown in the drawings and described in the specifications.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A sprue-wire mounted upon the nozzle of a syringe, and at an angle so that the point of the wire is in the path of a stream of water ejected from the syringe.

2. A sprue-wire detachably mounted upon the nozzle of a syringe and in such a position that a stream of water, ejected from the syringe, will fall upon the end of the wire extending beyond the end of the nozzle.
