TRAMMEL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 2, 1912. Application filed November 19, 1910. Serial No. 593,267.
which is To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUY F. Rnnsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairmonnt, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and provided at its inner end with an enlarged portion 11. A bolt 12 is passed through the opening 10 and has its head countersunk within the enlarged portion 11 so that it will not project and thus interfere with the movement of the blocks.
A pitman 13 is provided near its end with a pair of openings through which the bolts 12 pass and the pitman is retained upon the b0 ts by means of the pins 14 which pass through the openings 15 formed in the outer end of the bolts.
In the operation of the device, the disk 1. is rotated and as it rotates the blocks slide back and forth through the path ways 6 and cause the pitman to reciprocate. As the pitman moves backward and forward, the pres sure comes against the plates 4 and ,5 and by having the plates 4 longer than the plates 5, the end portions of the plates 4 are braced so that there is no danger of the pitman working them loose from the securing bolts 16. lVhen the pressure comes against the longer plates there is also no danger of them becoming loose as the pressure comes against the longitudinal diameter and as the block is in contact with the end portion of the plate 4 which is next to it and which is braced by its abutting plate 5, there is formed a very strong device.
Having described the invention I claim:
trammel comprising a rotary disk having an unbroken outer face, and pairs of right. angularly disposed strips mounted upon the outer face of said disk and forming a substantially X-shaped path, each pair drawing.
This invention relates to trammels and the principal object of the same is to produce an improved form of trammel arranged to operate upon a pitman so that the latter will be moved backward and forward twice to each revolution of the trammel.
his invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional View through the sliding block. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the plates secured to the driving wheel.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals it will be seen that the invention comprises a circular disk 1 which is metal-such as iron or steel-and is journaled to the frame 2 within the socket piece 3. The disk has secured to its outer surface a substantially X-shaped path way, which is composed of a number of plates 4 and 5. The plates 4 are of greater length than the plates 5 and have thelr ends flush with the inner edges of the of strips comprising a short strip of the shorter plates 5. The plates are spaced same width throughout its entire length and apart to provide path ways 6 and are proa long strip of the same width throughout vided with the over-hanging flanges 7 beits entire length and overlapping the end of tween which there is left a narrow slot. A said short strip and having its end flush pair of blocks having a rectangular lower with the side of said short strip.
portion 8 and an upstanding lon ltudinal In testimony whereof I hereunto atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GUY F. REESE.
lug 9 are placed within the path ways, the rectangular portion 8 fitting within the path way 6 and the lug 9 fitting between the flanges 7. Each of the blocks is provided with a centrally located vertical opening 10 WVitnesses JOHN KEENE,
