Be it known that I, RUDOLIHT. Gr.
SINGER, a citizenvof the United States",l resid-4 Iing at- Buffalo, in the county of yErle and State of New York, have invented a new land useful Sanitaryl Rendering and Drying A p-. paratus, of which the. following is aspecitcation.
. l The presentinvention relates to improvements 'in sanitary' rendering and drying apparatus, the'primary object of the invention being the provision of an improved agltator with a s ecial design of arms disposed conlywithin' the bottom of the retort and adapted to"be`rotated"to agitate or break u'p the mass of material and thefat cells, the samealso agitating the liquid V or wetmaterial before the oleaginous matterhas -been to the top rendered and drawny from the retort, this agitating causing the oleaginous matter to float where it may be drawn oif or rendered.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in theprecise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made withf in the scope of' whatis claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a front ele vation of the complete apparatus, the lower portion of the steam jacket and retort and the vupper portion of the retort being broken| away and shown in section. Flg. 2 1s a section takenon line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the main shell` of the apparatus which is coml osed of a single shell of steel, the lower en of which is surrounded by a steel steam jacket 2, 'the upper end of the shell 1 being closed by a single disk or head 3,"while the lower 'end or bottom is a double steel head 4: composed of t-wodisks as shown .in Fig. 1 Formed inthe upper head ofthe shell 1 is t-he upstanding ringcor flange 5 provided with the 'removable cap or c'lgsure 5, whereby the 'z-retort or/shell 1 may be loaded. It will be noted that the outer ends gf the arms oftheagitator 11, terminate at a point within the wall of the tank to provide 'a space therebetween for the passage of ob-'i stacles, such -as pieces of iron, brick, etc., `that may be dumped with the garbage into t the reservoir. During the operation of the boiling and final removal of the vapor from the apparatus, the material is continually agitated by the agitator disposed at the lower portion and concentrically of the/shell 1, and when saidmaterial has been dried or desic-V cated to the proper degree, the lower door 6 is opened and by t-he operation' the agitator, the material within the retort 1 is automatically discharged through the opening 6 controlled by the door 6.
It is evident by providing' an apparatus of the design herein set forth, that animal or vegetable matter may be properly treated so that the grease or oleaginous'm-atter may be removed therefrom so that the4 residue may be dried or desiccatedto the proper degree to be used for various purposes, and further that bythe novel construction and formation of the agitator within the lower end'o'f'the jacket 1 that any pieces of metal that may be Acontained Within the material will be moved without being wedged against the walls of the jacket to injure the same or the agitator, theipeculiar angle of deflect-ion ofthe arms carried by the agitator preventing such obstructions from stopping the agitator or causing any injury to the apparatus.
What is claimed is:
A rendering and desiccating apparatus, havinga reservoir, a shaft mounted concentrically at the bottom thereof, an agitator for the contents carried upon the upper end of the shaft and within the reservoir, the ends of said agitator terminating at a point away from the wall of the reservoir to permit the passage Vof obstacles therebetween, a pluralitybf stirring arms carried by and projecting upwardly from said agitator, and one longarmconnected to one end of the agitator andl having its terminal curved outwardly and upwardly above the agitator
