Be it known that I, PAUL GABRIEL TRI- QUET, a citizen of the French Republic, and resident of Paris, France, have invented 5 certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatuses for Sterilizing Liquids by Means of Ultra-Violet Rays, of which the following is a specification.

A The numeral 105 indicates a main body portion or receptacle having end flanges 105 and side flanges 123. Connected to the end flanges 105 are tapered inlet and outlet flues 150, the outer ends of which are annular as at 151 to form journals. On one side of the main body portion 105 is secured a 1 casing or cover 152 provided with flanges 122 and a plurality of partitions 120, the
latter extending inwardly and terminating in a plane with the surfaceo'f the side wall of the receptacle. The partitions 120 form a plurality of pockets 117 to receive lamp attaching means. In each pocket are lugs 121 to form guides for stirrups in which the lamps are secured. The opposite side wall of the main body portion or receptacle is formed with a plurality of openings 106, there being an opening opposite each pocket v117. Fitting over eachopening is a cover 109, formed with a' pocket 109 to receive the end of a lamp. There is a stirrup for each lamp 107 and it extends across the receptacle 105 and into the pockets 117 and 109*. Each stirrup is provided. with upturned ends which carry devices which engage theopposite end of a lamp, to support the-latter. inoperative positio Each mercury vapor lamp 107 comprises :a tube or quartz or other vitrifiedgnaterial which is pervious to ultra-violet rays and from each end of the lamp leads a wire 112, connected to binding posts 114 and 11 6.
In order that access may be had with the interior of the receptacle 105 .t'or the insertion hr withdrawaljofthe Lamps, 1 provide special means for fastening the covers 109 in position. Cooperating'with each cover 109 s a yoke 110 having its ends 111 bent inwardly toward eachother-to embrace the upper and lower side flanges 123. .The yoke is formed with-a threaded opening to receive a set screw 117", the inner end of which engages the end of the cover so as to bind I ittight against the receptacle.
The annular ends of the inlet and outlet flues fit in the inlet and outlet pipes 155 and 156 respectively. Fitting in each of the inlet and outlet pipesadjacent the journals on the receptacle are packing glands 157 'to form tight joints to-prevent leakage.
In operation the parts are assembled as.

Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
An apparatus for "sterilizing water comprlslng in combination with the water duct, a receptacle, means for inserting said receptacle-in said water duct so as to allow its being rotated and to cause the water to pass through it, the said receptacle comprising a body, a plurality of openings provided in one of the side Walls of said body, a cover having as many sockets as there are openngs in said body, means for tightly securing the said cover tot-he side of the bodyto the inside of said cap,,, and means for holding the opposite end of said stirrup in v the ,correspondlng socket,- substantially as sockets on one side and openings on the opposite; side in alinement with said sockets, mercury vapor lamps mounted in said sockets and openings, covers forthe openings, and means for securing the covers.
3. An apparatus for sterilizing water by ultra-violet rays comprising areceptacle 1 .formed with a pluralityof' oppositely disposed sockets, mercury vapor lampsvhaving their ends mounted within the sockets,
means for supporting the mercury vapor lamps, and'detachable means for gaining access to the sockets for insertion, or withdrawal of thelamps.

In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a receptacle formed with sockets, mercury vapor lamps detachablymounted in the sockets, detachable means 'on the receptacle for covering or uncovering the sockets to insert or withdraw the lamps, yokes in the receptacle and extending in the sockets to support the lamps, means in the sockets for holding the yokes in position in the receptacle, inlet and outlet flues secured to the ends of the receptacle and means for revolubly mounting. the inlet and outlet flues whereby to permit of the turning'of the receptacle.

In an apparatus of the class. described, the combination of a receptacle formed with sockets, mercury vapor lamps detachably mounted in the sockets, detachable means on the receptacle for covering or uncovering the sockets to insert or withdraw the lamps, inlet and outlet fines at the ends of the receptacle, an inlet pipe communicating with the inlet flue, an outlet pipe communicating with the outlet flue and means for revolubly mounting the inlet and outlet flues on the inlet and outlet pipes, whereby to permit the receptacle being turned,
